I used to think the top environmental problems were biodiversity loss, ecosystem collapse and climate change. I thought that with 30 years of good science, we could adress those problems. But I was wrong. The top environmental problems are selfishness, greed and apathy.... ....and dealing with those we need spiritual and cultural transformation — and we scientists don’t know how to do that
The environment matters, but in a different sense. The only thing that matters is our subjective experience with the environment. Just like having a clean room is an improvement over a messy room, it is that way because you improved your environment. So leaving plastic litter everywhere is bad for the environment because it makes nature less enjoyable for us and is disgusting. There is no Gaia whose health we need to pursue absent our own.
If you want to improve the environment for human experience the number one thing you can do is cut more trails through the woods, and limit over grown undergrowth that makes wilderness impassible and poses a fire hazard. That and avoid importing spics that will fill your woods with trash.

How to say you're White without saying you're White.
That's not entirely true. The world's ecosystems provide trillions of dollars worth of services to us. Replacing all the things the ecosystem does for us with human labor would take many times as much human labor as the world currently has. So there are reasons to maintain a healthy ecosystem even if you don't care about the ecosystem for its own sake.
You just disproved my point by saying that if we didn't take care of the environment it would negatively impact us. But that's entirely the metric I'm suggesting. Maybe my use of the world subjective was a poor choice. It's subjective + objective costs.
It’s called EUGENICS. Some groups of people conserve resources better than others. Every river in every shitskin country is clogged with pollution. Low IQs and reckless impulsive behaviors lead to bad environmental outcomes.
One of the main reasons our people have come through evolution so well is the heavy use of eugenics. Killing your criminals drastically lowers crime. And then, when they are dead, they don't make more criminals.
This of course is starting to go the other way now that we don't immediately execute them for major crimes.
But if we are trying to allow for one group to be selected over another because the network outcome of their individuals is better than the outcome of another group that's called group selection theory. It only works if the two groups aren't mixed.
