A UK court has ruled a 19-year-old critically ill female patient with a rare disorder cannot make her own decisions about continuing her medical care, as her family battles her doctors' desire to stop treatment and pursue end-of-life care.

Doctors want the kill the person, family and person want to live. This is some next level scary bullshit.

Socialized medical care is also currently taking care of her needs. No way the family would be able to afford her care if they were paying out of pocket.

Do you really not understand that despite treatment, some people will die? Do you really not understand that she only lived this far because she was getting socialized medical care in the first place? The reality is we don't have infinite resources, and people near the end of their lives can take up disproportionate amount of resources that reduce the healthcare of people with viable futures.

No socialized medical care, people fend for themselves, so if they die due to lack of care there's nobody to point the finger at. Socialized medical care, then when there's a limit to the amount of care given, all of a sudden it's the problem of socialized medical care. That's why Republicans made a lot of hay over "death panels" back in the day, but people die all the time due to lack of medical care in a free market system.

I don't like to read shit like this...how does the "human face" of the system look straight into the eyes of desperately frantic parents who are trying to keep their kid alive and tell them that saving their child is not going to happen?...where does this life denying cruelty come from when the hippocratic oath binds those in the medical profession to "above all do no harm"?
