That is a very likely scenario.

However the image you presented is fake.

And in the long term people spreading this image will be found to be liars. Even though they may well be telling the truth. Because the source they are providing is fake. So when someone questions what they were presented and looks it up they think wow this is fake news bullshit. And later when a real story to this effect materializes they dismiss it because the previous time they had been presented this information it was fake news.
