Someone runs it that asks for donations so it can handle bandwidth. Cheap jewhaters won't cough up any funds. They've been using it for years and won't send a donation.

I kno u guys hate poal, but pic8 . Way back at the beginning of poal I donated some BTC for it. So use it.

I used to help run pic8 as a subhost. I've made another version at https://img.gvid.tv. The images are public so it makes community moderation easier. Back when I helped with pic8 we had to deal with people uploading illegal images and the implausibility of me and picman moderating it all. That's where it lacks sustainability.

Plus it's less affiliated with Poal.

It's run by @ picman over there who also does some stuff for poal. I honestly don't know about the degree of their relationship, but it's safe to say they are or were friends. To my knowledge the infrastructure is independent of poal, but you'd have to ask him. vid8, the similar site needed to upload videos, doesn't seem to be accessible for non-poal users.
