when did people become so ... incompetent when it comes to basic home fixing?

submitted by BeholdIAmHere to TellTalk 1.8 yearsAug 27, 2023 13:18:18 ago (+22/-2)     (TellTalk)

Im selling a house and the feedback is ... retarded. Some of the complaints include: the lawn needs to be trimmed, a door is a little stuck and needs sanding, and some walls need a small amount of touching up. I could understand hard hitting issues like flooding, or whatever, but the complaints literally came down to "i cant be assed to do basic house maintenance". Ironically my house is older and is still standing and built with actual solid materials. The crapsicle people want to buy now is builder grade trash with premium finishes that disintegrate after a year.

Dear God if this is how this new generation works, we are so completely screwed. I really hope this is just a microcosm of poor feedback on the house from a small minority, and not the norm.

Funny how so many are drawn to the life, yet have no taste for the lifestyle.

Imagine putting a gun to that faggots head and telling him to change a head piston and liner

No I do call out field work mostly. Changing out a head piston and liner and turbo in the middle of the night on a mining truck after the mother fucker dropped a valve and went BOOM! With motherfuckers pacing anxious cause they're losing money with it down.

I would say that puts me in the 0.01%

My parents didn't teach me shit about anything either. Most of what I can do I figured out on my own or someone else showed me. While that's good in its own way, I never had those bonding moments with my parents, I'll always resent them for that. Being brought in to the world by narcissists is fucking horrible.

Boomers care so much about how to mow a lawn and yet somehow never taught their kids how to clean a carb or start a mower. Fuck boomers.

[ - ] bosunmoon 9 points 1.8 yearsAug 27, 2023 14:05:18 ago (+9/-0)

Why don't you fix that simple shit and charge more?

You can charge more for the house by mowing the lawn? Interesting.

[ - ] bosunmoon 3 points 1.8 yearsAug 27, 2023 18:00:51 ago (+3/-0)

Yes.
Just like If you clean a car people are willing to pay more.
People are lazy and retarded.

[ - ] Anus_Expander 0 points 1.8 yearsAug 27, 2023 18:04:05 ago (+0/-0)

Don't cater to dipshits. The lawn needs to be mowed every 7-10 days.

[ - ] bosunmoon 1 point 1.8 yearsAug 27, 2023 18:06:27 ago (+1/-0)

If you won't mow a lawn for a 10k difference in the sale price of your home, you are the dipshit.

[ - ] Anus_Expander 0 points 1.8 yearsAug 27, 2023 18:11:09 ago (+0/-0)

Mowing the lawn makes a 10k difference? Interesting. I should tell my realtor frenz!

Goes both ways. I got a fkn awesome deal on a slice of paradise because the buildings needed lots of basic upkeep. Put 30k or so into fixing up the place and almost doubled its rated value in 3 years.

[ - ] Vrbllpollushin 0 points 1.8 yearsAug 27, 2023 19:33:58 ago (+0/-0)

Bought mine for 10k over asking price for 205k in Dec 2020. Put 50k into it, and it is worth 380k easy. In the country, 70 yr old walkout brick ranch.my little slice of heaven.

It’s been like this for a few decades, now - make sure the grout in your showers are white, not off white. Bleach or paint them, but people immediately have lowered impressions of your house with such tiny insignificant details.

[ - ] BeholdIAmHere [op] 1 point 1.8 yearsAug 27, 2023 15:16:33 ago (+2/-1)

I had a professional cleaner and yard guy come out. What they were complaining about was extremely minor stuff like the shed door needed some mild paint, and stuff. The yard and house is meticulously maintained and stuff, so the complaints were more like tack holes in the wall, etc

[ - ] Mr_ 1 point 1.8 yearsAug 27, 2023 16:03:02 ago (+1/-0)

Sounds like their realtor told them they have to counter with something. Reminds me of the tactic where you purposefully leave something “wrong” and obvious so they feel like there is a win to be had

Sales?

[ - ] x0x7 2 points 1.8 yearsAug 27, 2023 16:13:31 ago (+2/-0)

They are just trying to talk your price down. Which is fair. A price should reduce a bit by how much work it takes to get into the state they want to get it in. Don't do the work though. Studies show that the return rate of fixing things in your house before selling is almost always negative.

So take the highest value a home has sold in your area recently with the same basic properties, assuming it got everything right, then take the cost it would take to make everything in the house perfect, and deduct only 70%-50% of that cost. If you did the work you'd be eating 100% of the cost, and eating it before the sale.

In essence let buyers fix, but they should get a deal if it's extra work they'll have to do verse another house.

[ - ] Vrbllpollushin 0 points 1.8 yearsAug 27, 2023 19:35:37 ago (+0/-0)

Yup. It's called devaluing. Sales tactic. We do it to trade ins, and customers do it to used cars they want to purchase. Been this way for ever.

[ - ] Clubberlang 1 point 1.8 yearsAug 27, 2023 22:03:04 ago (+1/-0)

Give me your address and I'll check it out.

But yea I noticed I've kept really busy latley with handyman fixes.

Easy shit too and they don't balk at your quotes either.

I don't try to jew em on labor either.

Im doing some repairs this weekend. Replacing 2 faucets and replacing some deck boards. My boomer dad was over but he was just useless. He wanted to call plumber because the nut was stuck on the sink. He was a whiney bitch and a quitter. Stood around demoralizing me while I worked. I almost beat him to death with the wrench.

Im not very handy and theres a lot of jobs I won’t even attempt. But no way am I calling a plumber to change out a faucet!

[ - ] NaturalSelectionistWorker 1 point 1.8 yearsAug 27, 2023 14:15:06 ago (+1/-0)

the lawn needs to be trimmed

How the fuck is that even a complaint? Even if they buy it, the lawn will need to be trimmed a week later anyway.

[ - ] taoV 1 point 1.8 yearsAug 27, 2023 14:25:42 ago (+1/-0)

Presentation matters in sales. If you want me to buy your house, try making it look like it ws kept up a bit. People will nitpick less that way.

[ - ] Clubberlang 1 point 1.8 yearsAug 27, 2023 22:14:58 ago (+1/-0)

Blame the jew reality home flipper shows.

They gloss over all the pain and work that goes into making the house look a certain way. So normies automatically think aymuh doo dat!

They buy some shithole in mudsville and give up on it 6 months later after they can't figure out a wiring fault.

[ - ] Stonkmar 0 points 1.8 yearsAug 28, 2023 12:23:54 ago (+0/-0)

A lot of that generation rented for a long time. They have no idea how to fix stuff.

Citrus scent is scientifically tested to get you more money for your house. All other scents are inferior.

People think that if you put 100 nails in a board it will make it stronger.

This only applies to jews and nogs but it has the reverse effect. It makes society stronger and whiter.

[ - ] Inward 0 points 1.8 yearsAug 27, 2023 16:16:49 ago (+0/-0)

We are so completely screwed. I'm not quoting you. That is my response.

[ - ] MaryXmas 0 points 1.8 yearsAug 27, 2023 16:11:26 ago (+0/-0)

I bought a fixer upper and the former owner didn't take care of the little shit like that. We pushed for an additional 12k reduction off of the house, even after a low bid. The owner said ok, and we moved in. I fixed all the shit in a few months and a few trips to home depot
I pocketed the change.

The realtor said "well, your offer isn't insulting, but it's really low" lol.

Its all a game. Fix the shit or don't. Younger gens know more about fixing shit than boomers think.

[ - ] Clubberlang 0 points 1.8 yearsAug 27, 2023 22:18:50 ago (+0/-0)

Are you buying the house? No? Good fuck off with your backhanded comments. Lol 🙄
