Part of me knew this day would come, but I've been avoiding it for a long time. For those wondering, I don't get check ups and don't go to doctors, and the last time i got any vax (it was for tetanus or something) was many years ago. I dont smoke, never have,, I dont do drugs, I exercise every day, I dont eat out that often, and i drink a metric ton of water. Literally, nothing helps at this point. Lately I have been noticing symptoms that are clearly pointing to some kind of underlying problem.
The first symptoms I noticed is that my body has started to "forget" how to breathe. This is more noticeable at night, but has happened during the day too. This couples with my other symptoms of being insomniac... seriously most days ill be lucky to get into bed and fall asleep before 1 or 2 in the morning at this point. Before someone calls me a fat fuck, my BMI at last weigh in was around 22.
The second, extremely uncomfortable symptom is that my heart has started using adrenaline to "spike" itself back to a normal heart rate. I could be sleeping or resting, and I feel a very sharp rush like pain going through my chest that feels like im doing exercise. But Im completely at rest. This is usually followed by horrible headaches in my brain. And a lot of times my heart, even at rest is beating so fast you can feel it in the tipmost parts of my veins and stuff. I was sleeping today with a hat on, and i could feel my heart rate from the tip of my nose touching my hat ... that's how hard my heart rate was pounding AT REST.
The third symptoms is that my body rapidly gets exhausted from doing close to nothing. Even talking or a light walk will sometimes be enough to incapacitate me for the rest of the day. And any high strenuous exercise will usually get me sick for multiple days at a time. I once tried to go jogging for an hour ... I literally got sick for 3+ days.
The last symptom is really the weight, my body tends to lose weight. I cut alcohol out of my diet completely a few months for a surprising reason: drinking alcohol makes me lose weight. Most people say im lucky, but when someone is losing weight from alcohol, is usually a bad sign. It couples with me requiring a metric crap ton of water per day compared to before. Now my body burns and evaporates water much faster than it used to.
Whilst this may be above the talk paygrade, what are some holistic things I can do to fix this problem? I know, deep down, going to the doctor and getting examined is my best bet. But overall the symptoms are pretty... bad
Like many others have said here already, going to the doctors doesn’t mean you have to comply with what they say. But it could help save your life in case there’s a serious problem.
It sounds like you are having heart issues. Your heart is struggling to get enough oxygen and it’s also effecting your brain.,You need to go to the doctor right now.
If it’s not the heart it could be diabetes since you are losing weight too easily and drinking too much water. But either way get yourself checked.
I totally get it, I never go to doctors either. But if I were having the symptoms you are having and regularly, I would get tests run on me. The only thing doctors are good for are the machines and technology that can somewhat show if the problem is serious and urgent.
Meanwhile, don’t drink too much water. Quit exercising for now.
Well I just woke up for the night again, i had to look it up but it sound eerily similar to central sleep apnea, my lungs were stuck in the "off" position and my heart had to hijack me awake to get back to breathing
Definitely sleep apnea. You could have a flap of skin blocking your airway. Or a mineral imbalance limiting your nervous system. Sleep apnea can have many causes.
Sleep apnea blocks oxygen to heart and brain. Get some tests done and find out what could possibly be the issue, then look for all avenues of treatment including alternative medicine.
Some of these symptoms don't sound diabetic, like forgetting to breath.
But 1/3rd of the population is pre-diabetic, and it's enough to get some symptoms off of even before full diabetic. He really needs to get himself sorted out entirely which is why he needs some blood work done at least. But if he is diabetic or pre-diabetic he needs to get that sorted out even if the main issue is something else because the combined symptom list is going to needlessly confuse doctors.
That's why I would definitely check for any level of diabetes even if I don't think that's the main issue. Honestly it sounds neurological.
If you drink too much water you throw the sodium balance out of whack. Flushing your system is flushing all the good things away. Stop doing that. A human doesn't need 8 glasses of water a day. Maurice Strong started that, along with acid rain because he was kickstarting the bottled water industry. Everything you eat has water in it. Sip a cup of water when you're thirsty and get it down to three cups a day.
Go to a drug store and check your blood pressure. If you do have high blood pressure, medication will prolong your life, but you do the research over which ones.
Whatever you're eating, it shouldn't be the same thing all the time. You need variety. Every plate of food should be one third carbohydrates, one third protein and one third fruit or vegetables.
Going to a doctor doesn't mean you have to take what he says or do as he says. It's a consultation.
You should have a sleep study done. Sounds like you have sleep apnea. Only way to fix this non invaseively is with a cpap or dental appliance. I would recommend getting blood work done (with hormone and vitamin panel) as well just to rule out anything serious or hormone/vitamin deficiency.
You don't have to accept any pills and diagnosis, but having tests to show what's going on with your body can at least give you a starting point on how to treat these symptoms. The treatment is up to you.
OP's BMI wouldn't lend itself to this theory readily and this was my first reaction as well.
@BeholdIAmHere - I second @HeyJames recommendation concerning investigating sleep apnea.
Curious, however; you mentioned eliminating alcohol for months at a time. Did you notice any difference in your ability to experience restful sleep?
Another possibility that I suggest looking into is Adrenal Fatigue. Some basic searching should be enough for you to determine whether or not the typical diagnosis jives with your personal experience and, should you be inclined to pursue the matter further, I recommend you work with a Naturopathic Doctor as MDs will not be able to help.

Yeah health issues like that can be stubborn to admit to. However admitting you need help with something that can improve your quality of life takes more courage than ignoring a problem. This is what I've come to realize as someone who hates going to medical offices.
The thing is i did the ER thing a few times in the last decade and every time the DR told me to stop wasting his time, sent me a huge bill and told me to get out.
Do what HeyJames said about a regular appointment. But also the CVS minute-clinic can save some money on doing labs. Doing labs first might make it obvious what is happening and then that will tell you which kind of doctor to talk to so you save your time, their time, and your money.
But man, I can't tell you those labs are going to make everything clear. They just might give you an idea of a direction to head in.
Though with the heart issues I might just go to a cardiologist right away. It sounds like you already know you have an irregular heart beat so you should probably do that.
some of the symptoms sound like what my father had. I don't know the right terminology, but he ended up needing a pump installed in his heart for his left heart chamber (Left Ventricular Assistive Device LVAD) The part of your heart that pumps blood through your lungs is trying to pump all your blood through your body because the other heart chamber is not doing it anymore. My dad ended up with an LVAD, plus a pacemaker, plus a defibrillator. Lived less than two years after a cold did him in. Still miss him a lot.
Try meditating before bed to improve your sleep. Sitting calmly and quieting the chatter in your brain can help you get close enough to sleep that then when you lay down you'll pass out quickly. Here's a simple step by step practice.
1. Sit in a comfortable position. You can sit cross legged like most people do when they meditate, or sit in a chair where you can bend your knees back and have your feet under the seat.
2. Breathe in slowly, filling the bottom of your lungs first - your belly should expand more than your chest. As you breathe in, count out about 8 seconds breathing in, then hold your breath for 8 seconds, then exhale slowly for 8 seconds and repeat. Take 8 deep, slow breaths this way.
3. Mentally count backwards from 100, pausing for about a second between each number. Breathe deeply and slowly as you do this (you don't have to take as slow of breaths as in step 2, but slower than your normal breathing during the day). Try to keep your mental chatter to a minimum and focus on the numbers.
4. Once you reach 0, silence your mental voice as much as possible and sit there for a few minutes in silence. Breathe slowly and focus on your breathing if it helps to keep your mental chatter down. You can focus on a simple mental noise/chant like "ommm". If you're spiritual, you may focus on a symbol of your faith like a rune or whatever if you like, as long as you keep it simple.
5. When you reach a state that's somewhere between awake and asleep and feel like you're having trouble staying awake, tell yourself "I'm going to go to bed and fall asleep when I count to 10" and then count to 10 slowly as you did when you counted backwards from 100. When you get to 10, go to bed.
Focusing on calm, stable breathing throughout the meditation will help your lungs and heart relax. Not sure if that will be enough to help with the heart and breathing problems but if it helps you get a good night sleep that might help take some of the stress off of them. I hope you didn't get vaccinated by proxy - taking your immune nutrients and doing a round of anti-parasitic treatments may help if you got infected with whatever they're putting in the vax, or may do nothing if it's totally unrelated. Make sure to get your immune nutrients from some off brand at a place like natural grocers or no name nutrition, not a mainstream brand like centrum or naturemade that's sold at walmart because it's owned by big pharma.
Cardiologist ASAP. Several of your symptoms are indicative of mitral valve regurgitation. Sometimes a doctor can hear it just using a stethoscope. He'd also measure 12 point ECG and send you out for an echocardiogram. None of this is evasive and will rule out any vascular issues.
[ - ] DoughGoy 1 point 1.7 yearsAug 27, 2023 01:26:48 ago (+1/-0)
I would at least go to a lab and get your blood work done. You can look up what each thing means when you get the results. Could be something hormonal wrong, and at least then you will know what to focus on.
[ - ] Cunt 1 point 1.7 yearsAug 27, 2023 00:47:11 ago (+1/-0)
Go to a doctor very soon please. You do not have enough information for a diagnosis or treatment.
The heart and breathing stuff is especially very serious.
It could be more then one thing as well.
Get full bloods done, hormones, vitamins, minerals, sugars. A heart stress test might be a good idea. But talk to a doctor, get tests, lots of tests, listen to their opinion and after the tests come back you can judge if the doctor's diagnosis is accurate and then assess traditional or alternative treatments.
I don't like doctors either but they have their uses. Mainly testing, cutting and to a lesser extent diagnosis. Treatment plans involving drugs is usually where I get very skeptical.
I had some testing done many years ago (it may be outdated), the heart was fine, beating normally, lungs functioned normally. Cardio laughed me out the door, and pulm had mentioned i desaturate very easily during sleep. I had done a sleep test in my teenage years and they had noticed my base oxygen sats at sleep are at around 60 mmhg, compared to the traditional 85. Nothing was really done with this information and it's been many decades since then
[ - ] Cunt 0 points 1.7 yearsAug 29, 2023 20:55:34 ago (+0/-0)
pulm had mentioned i desaturate very easily during sleep.
So sleep apnea is still on the table. ENT specialist might be something to look into if basic tests don't lead anywhere, and/or another sleep study. When lying down you're airway might be partially closed up, ox sats might be worse now you're older and causing day problems. Fix could be a special pillow, cpap machine or surgery.
So look into that. Eat more red meat, get some magnesium too the comments said and I'm sure there is stuff that helps iron absorbtion or that blocks absorbtion so look into that.
It seems we see the templar medical industry in the same light.
In all honesty I have my own tropes that I deal with daily and find many "holistic" ways to cure myself.

So my gut is telling me this is anxiety-related; sometimes anxiety can play shell games. One other thing to think about is that sleep apnea is not always caused by a person's being overweight; apnea can be caused 'centrally', which is an issue with your autonomic nervous system, not occlusion of the airway.
A couple simple things: Get yourself a blood pressure cuff, start monitoring your blood pressure. Get a Bluetooth one so you can easily make a record. Next get an Apple Watch or any other smart watch that monitors your heart rate. Start a record. If it shows anything irregular, time to consult a professional.
AFTER my heart attack, I can never sleep laying down for more than three hours. I get up and sit in my recliner. At sunrise I go back to bed and sleep as normal.
My country town doctor said my heart was just fine. After I came back from the hospital, I learned that my doctor had a heart attack and died during my absence. So much for doctors and stethoscopes. Should have gone to the city and have a full work-up. As should you.
I have the same issue with insomnia / catching breath as I nod off. Usually wake up with a loud snore and take like 5 deep breaths in a row to restore oxygen. If I get 4 hours it's a decent nights sleep.Took benzo's for 28 years every night, trying to cycle off them now with a combination of GABA, melatonin, cbd and wine. The wine doesn't help i'm sure.. Male - mid 50's. Was thinking about sleep study to determine need for cpap
No heart cuff, usually what happens is I wake up and my heart is racing and feels like it's gonna explode out of my chest. Usually it's on the right side, so its not a heart attack
I'm like you so I'll lead with a left field guess you might want to research: POtS it sounds like hyper adrenergic POtS.
Postural Orthostatic(i think) Syndrome
Changing from sitting to standing to laying down ever get you winded? Try waiting a moment at the edge of the seat dip your knees down so they are lower than your hips and see if the effect is lesser or not. Do you have gluten problems? POtS is more common with celiacs and other types of gluten disorders. You will start having presyncopy or syncopy if it is POtS but that could come with other heart conditions too. Do some personal research pressure garments like socks and compression shirts can help, the adrenaline is from the heart's compensation response, hormone signals tell blood vessels to tighten up in the extremities to send blood back to the heart when you stand but hypnogogic jerks when exhausted can create a similar compensation response. Smaller meals, compression, better sleep routine no caffeine or booze, and look up the dietary restrictions essentially cut simple carbs and replace them with complex carbs. Simple carbs and large meals will pull blood to the stomach and intestines causing the compensation response. Hypovolemia is common with POtS and requires electrolytes and probably a good source of iron, like deep green veggies. And avoid NaCl salt where possible but not entirely, high salt intake will stimulate the high adrenaline effect. In POtS you want to avoid physical activity, even just a good bit of standing or walking a few hours before bed and you need proper sleep temperature low temperature in the bedroom at bedtime and don't whole up under blankets completely kick your legs out and arms out if you need your chest covered.
Don't fuck with heart stuff, get insured if you aren't and see a doc. It will take a few years of medical records and tests but if it is POtS and it's moderate or worse you could get on disability, pro tip go for an OD/DO not an MD and get one who knows POtS, most allopathic doctors will ignore symptoms to fit you into a treatment plan for a more common disease.
Don't just read these guesses and think it is solved when some stuff lines up, get good insurance and and find the best doc you can. As for supplements calcium magnesium tablets with a snack an hour before bed and have camomile tea, if you want to go harder try the andrew huberman sleep supplement regimen and remember to cut out blue light after sundown, that likely means setting all your tvs and devices to a warm color tone and reducing the brightness.
Are you also having constipation? And what is your age roughly?
There are 3 kinds of POtS but you can have multiple types at once like hypovolemic and hyper-adrenergic. If you have good cardio-vascular health I imagine the bulk of symptoms wouldn't be noticed but POtS probably wouldn't develop in a healthy person I think.
funny you mention this, most if not all these problems started when i moved from a carnivore diet to a mediteranean diet. I actually had none of these problems prior

I ask because some people are suggesting you monitor your heart but it sounds like maybe you are already doing that.

Fix your life the best you can whether that means profession, family or even just a vacation. Get a cat. Cats are great.
