It's not safe to proceed if the light just turned green

When you're approaching a red light and it turns green never proceed through the intersection unless you can see both sides of the crossing Street and you can absolutely see that everyone has absolutely stopped.

This little rule saved my life last year when a concrete truck ran a red light at least 3 seconds after it had changed and I was approaching the newly green light.

If I hadn't paid attention he would have hit me on the driver side and I'd be dead.

No doubt the driver thought well it's going to be too hard to try to stop this thing so I'll just go ahead and go through this deep yellow light.

That must be why I rarely see yellow lights anymore. Also, has anyone noticed how crosswalk durations are so hilariously short nowadays too? I remember in the early 2000s they would last a good 15 seconds, but now you're lucky if they last even 5. Everything is basically weaponized against both drivers and pedestrians.

Happens around here so much that we have a joke about it.
Dude gives another dude a ride. They approach a red light and the driver blows right through it. Passenger says, "Dude, that's dangerous!"
Driver says, "don't worry, my brother does it all the time."
Does the same thing at the next light.
Then the next light is green and the driver stops, looking both ways.
Passenger says, "Dude! What are you doing Now?"
Driver replies, "Got to make sure my brother isn't coming through!"

Does Australia time the lights so there is a couple second "pause" where all directions are given red?

My home state changed how their lights work so there's at least three seconds of red before cross traffic is given the green.

About 10 years ago I was waiting at a red on my way to work and the light turns green and this semi comes barreling through at well over 60, the speed limit on that road was 45 if I remember right. I remember sitting there stunned at how easily that semi could have killed some people. Then coo lights go on and suddenly a cop from behind me chases after it.

I learned nothing from that day, green means GO MOTHER FUCKER. I will honk at your green wasting safety ass. GOOOOOOO

Imagine the real world consequences. Every other intersection will be blocked by disabled cars and trucks. It will tsake hours every day for anybody to get to work, to get home from work or to even go shopping. That disabled car in your lane disables YOU.

Virtual spike strips would require no physical infrastructure. When the vehicle violates the specified boundary or condition, a signal to the cars computer would shut it down. Or drive them directly to the closest Traffic Violation Station for processing.

It's not safe anywhere anymore. My precious old and (priceless to me) car was totaled by a drunk driver at 3:30 AM last monday when I was driving to work. I was stopped at a red light, in neutral, and all I heard were screeching tires and my car was propelled into the intersection. Never even saw the fucker coming at me. Incredibly, a cop cruiser was right next to me. The asshole driver was so drunk he was singing to himself.

I've had about 5 near hits over the past couple months. I've seen people do illegal U-turns going 15 miles an hour into 50 mile an hour traffic. It's as if everyone is in a zombie-like state, on drugs, or God knows what. And this prick finally nails me and I never had a chance.

You need to drive like it's Mad Max out there. Be careful, Goats.

I’ve been driving for 40 years. I’ve only been hit mostly from behind 7 times while sitting at a light. Three women in Texas, two male niggers in Texas, two male Puerto Ricans, one in New Jersey, one in New York. One female broadside.

One of the most satisfying stories of my life. In the late 80’s, I worked at a video store in Texas and a fellow sixteen year old employee, a female, was begging me to teach her to drive a stick in my car. I said, no way is a girl going to drive my precious Fiero GT. The line to check out was long. A woman stepped out of line to tell me I was being a chauvinist. I laughed . The woman got more upset. I thought she was fucking with me. Then I realized that she didn’t recognize me, a year before, that woman had backed out of her driveway fast without looking and hit me broadside. I reminded her of the event. Suddenly, it all came back to her and she laughed, everyone laughed. I informed her that she held the record for most damage done. Me and this woman became friends after that, her 17 year old daughter was hired to work at the store, and her daughter eventually blew me a few dozen times after closing on the beanbag chairs where the kids would sit and watch cartoons. It was thrilling to hear tapes coming thru the night drop while my dork was in her mouth. I think she liked it too.

I bought a mustang for 900 had the back window broken out because some nog threw a brick through it.

Replaced the inline 6 with a 302 4sp. Back window, headliner, carpet, gauge cluster, fuel tank, pump and sending unit. Repainted .

Drove it for the next 4 years. Got a job where the stang was sitting in the driveway. I'd start it and drive it around once a week.

A guy came around one day asking me if I'd sell it. Told him 3500. Sold.

Excellent point. I see some people so anxious, either to zoom through a green-transitioning light (I know I sometimes feel myself 'lucky' when this happens, since I didn't have to come to a stop) or to just gun it from out of the stop. It's fucking retarded. I've seen way too many people say 'fuck it' at the last second and blitz right through a light that has just turned red. You never know when you've got that person who just isn't paying attention, or who is running late and thinks the risk favors them that no cops are around. I especially avoid doing this in the city, where idiot drivers abound (too many niggers). In the country you can get away with it, often because you have better visibility and fewer cars on the road.
