I remember reading about these 3 girls that for a science fair made a plastic straw that changed colour in the presence of date rape drugs....

Fast forward 6 weeks and plastic straw companies were ready to put it into production with a negligible cost increase...

Then that turtle video went "surfaced" and went viral...then bye bye straws.

Turns out in the end that turtle nose straw video was like 5 years old by the time it went global

I remember reading an article about a little boy in California who was drinking with a metal straw and fell while it was in his mouth. It severed an artery in his throat and he was without oxygen for a period of time while they tried to help him. It was unknown how much brain death happened.
