Ravenous (1999) Is the Most Trenchant Depiction of the Jew I've Ever Seen

It's not only the parasitism and the way the wandering, defeated man prays on the virtues of the others, but it's also how, once the corruption has found its way into the camp, it begins to take the others. This film cuts to seriously deep features of human psychology, and I think, of Jewish archetypes. Anybody interested in a different take on vampirism (one that seems far more relevant) or who is interested in 'small world' stories that depict universal truths should watch this film.

Aside from all of that, the cast and the characters are fantastic. You never find yourself drifting 'out' of this movie.

- "We just need a home and this country is seeking to be whole...stretching out its arms and consuming all it can...and we merely follow".

- "It's not courage to resist me...it's courage to accept me"

- "Are you to be trusted?"..."Of course not!"

Good flick.

The wendigo was the bullshit story the Crow made up to explain to other tribes how they had a whole village when winter started, but only a couple of fat Indians left come spring.

"Hey, where'd the rest of your village go?"

"Well, there was this evil spirit, see? and it started eating people, see?..."

Wiki sez "The film uses its period setting and the act of cannibalism to critique manifest destiny, colonialism and capitalism. Said Bird: "As a European, observing early Californian history and making a film about that — I kind of believe Europeans were responsible for a lot of stuff that happened here. Robert Carlyle’s character represents that. The Europeans practiced genocide. I think the good things about America — we're (Europeans) not responsible for."

Fucking over privileged cunts need to get the fuck out.

Yeah, there are definitely 'universal' aspects. That's the thing with themes like these. You can overlay a lot of different allegorical motifs on top. You could wind up thinking it is a critique of the rat race generally, of human avarice and competition. It could also be viewed as an allegory for addiction.

I didn't want people to have to read a bunch of disclaimers like this, so I avoided getting into it too much. I think if people watch the film, they'll see why I made the Jewish connection, especially with many of the revelations that have come to light in recent years re: allegations of ritual murder and cannibalism among the elite.

Even if someone finds themselves skeptical about my intepretation, they're still going to like the movie. It has this really eccentric blend of darkness and comedic elements, especially with the film's score. It was a movie that 'hung around' in my head for a while after viewing.
