If you look at recreational legal states their car accident numbers and weed related crimes didn't increase. Instances of underage consumption stayed the same if not went down because their illegal dealers couldn't compete.

I'm not saying it'll fix all our problems, but it's definitely a substance that can help people with legitimate issues.

The drug business was nowhere what it is today. A good example is that they introduced heroin (bought OTC) as a solution for morphine addiction, so all this was just ramping up.

It's physically addictive too. The most obvious symptom is usually sleep disturbance. It can also cause some issues with the vagus nerve that can provoke anxiety and/or make it difficult to eat, messes with the function of your hypothalamus, and a slew of other shit. It's a lot more tolerable/treatable than many other drugs, but just the same.
