I drove past a PODS storage container and it reminded me of (((schwabby))) then I saw some homeless people and the light went off in my noggin about rising property taxes and increasing rents. They're purposely putting the squeeze on us plebs.
Here’s my dang question: Where the hell is the generational wealth? Can assume all of us here are smart enough to leave a legacy behind to help our children. So if we had fathers working their entire lives, then where are the fruit of that labor?
Inflation. The price of everything has at least doubled within the past 25 years.TPTB have really cranked it up since the lockdowns. My groceries have doubled within the past 3 years - I have to spend more time shopping around and carefully looking at prices a lot more than I ever have before. My electric bill has gone up about 30% more than this time last year. Gas prices keep slowly climbing, a regular haircut is about $25 + tip. And it's just gonna keep getting worse.
The non-veteran homeless need herded into shipping containers and sent to San Francisco and Portland. Save everyone else’s local resources for the truly needy veterans and mentally ill that would benefit, not those that are enabled by other’s charity.
I feel like half the veteran homeless are making it up, or at least it has nothing to do with their homelessness. A lot of times they're panhandling so being a "disabled veteran" makes more money than just some guy. In certain generations, most men joined the military. Uncle Sam owes em what they owe them, depending on their length of service, and then I don't think they're the DoD's problem any more. I'm not trying to get between veterans and benefits they've earned, but what I'm saying is I detect a lot of stolen valor and excuses going on.
Going to 'Nam is an excuse to get hooked on drugs one time, eh. If you've been doing drugs ever since, that's not excusable. In any case, you have to stop doing that in order to stop being homeless, so I'm not taking away anything from anyone. There's def. some people that need to move on.

For many would be preferable to a Home of Multiple occupation (HMO) - many of those are pretty squalid, over priced and provide little privacy.
If a pod was significantly cheaper, and offered privacy people would go for it. Particularly those who are temporarily grinding to save for something.
