As I'm sure a bunch of users have pointed out, the main page doesn't stay logged in. However, I've noticed that if I click on a comment section for a post, once that page loads, I'm logged in, and then when I go back to the main page, I'm logged in as well.
Dunno if it has anything to do with the redirects, but I do visit from voat.xyz and not upgoat.net (although I'm pretty sure the issue happens no matter what URL you visit from).
