I was thinking something similar - but might have gotten into legal issues territory:

use a stronger cane next time. The chops were in the key locations - just below the ball joints. Ball joint breaks - think just below shoulders and hips - cannot be easily plaster casted. Break all 4 bones just below the ball joints and that is a total body cast for up to 4 to 6 months, and lots of therapy after - and that is if the bones align and heal well.

If the bones do not heal well, then the only way to fix a broken bone near the ball joint is to insert a metal pin - and that is another 2 to 3 months of limited mobility as the bone heals.
