First off, what does your father know about it? Given that he's an anthropologist he must have some context to it from a cultural standpoint.

Based on what you've stated about Carnival, my gut instinct would be to say it's a blend of multiple concepts to achieve an artistic flair. I see Mempo aspects with a crown adorned by a pig skull. My gut reaction, again, would be a character the artist created to embody a concept similar to a Pig King, which may have gone along with a float for the Carnival Parade (look it up, you'll see what I mean)

Given that Carnival is a Brazil specific thing, at least mostly so in the 90s, I tried looking up folklore in that region for references to boar and/or peccary, but didn't find anything substantive. Doesnt mean there isnt a connection, but my 10 minute search didnt yield anything obvious.

Dad is dead and gone, thats why I have no info. He was in Brazil at the time he was on a multi country trek through the region and during carnival for sure. He published a booklet on his journey for documentation, he’ll, maybe it’s mentioned in there. I’ll have to check.

Sorry to hear about your father, but do please update if you find the documentation as I'm now invested in this and used to have an affinity for anthropology before getting black pilled on the state of modern Academia. If you make a new post as follow-up and you think about it, tag me in it

PM me to remind me. It’s low on my list to dig for that article.

I get that. I’m looking for details on it. Region, tribe, etc.

Could not find a translated version. Is the mask ceramic? are his eyes painted or is that glass?

Editing to add. open mouth apparently means death and/or dominance

It’s made of very lightweight wood, like you find in southern climates. The eyes are glass, the skull, mask and wings are all separate pieces fitted together. It may be more of a decorative piece made for tourists, however, my father was an anthropologist who had traveled the world and he had a collection of real masks. Some were very old.

From my meager understanding of beaners, "carnival" or whatever it WAS meant to be, is something like Halloween where people donned costumes scarier than demons in order to scare the real demons off.
This was of course twisted over the generations (aided by jew, aztec and voodoo nigger admixture) to become a simple celebration of evil.

What is that?
Edit: I just looked that up. Could be, but like I said, my dad found it in South America or Mexico. However, my father was an anthropologist, so who knows why he picked it up. He had a collection of masks from all over.
