Anyone pointing out that it's voat's logo, colors, icons, etc. is getting hit it immediate downvotes strongly implying that there is more going on here than someone just stealing a design, @system
I kinda wonder if there was more to the original logo than meets the eye. You've got the two triangles, understandable for an up/down voting system but also the shapes that make the jew star, the hourglass of Saturn, the alchemical element symbols, etc. Then there's the O/ring and the T/cross, think Sauron/Saturn where Sauron is Saturn minus the cross plus the ring. Though admittedly the T is capitalized, so looks less like the crosses people are used to (whether it's the extended leg one that's an unfolded cube used by judeo-christians or the + with equal arms used by ancient Pagans). But kike kabala wizards do love controlling their opposition. I dunno, maybe I'm just being schizo.
Nah, you’re not being schizo. They refer to the behavior as autist, but I don’t think it is wise to shame people who call out and notice patterns. You are simply reverse-engineering the design choices of the logo wether or not the designs were intentional.
As an example, one need look no further than the stars and the stories written based on their patterns and movements by endless ancient civilizations. Even the birth and death of Jesus is written in the sky.
Pretty strange they would name the extension that. When I was building this website I hoped puttitout would take notice and come on board and offer up the voat.co domain name. Afterall, if the only reason it shut down was because of a lack of funds, this was the perfect solution. But I don't think that it was the only reason. And I don't think anyone has heard from puttitout since. Then I became more familiar with the Kape Technologies situation and figured there was a good chance puttitout didn't even own the site or trademarks anymore. Then I saw it as a liability and decided to change it.
Justin is still alive you can find him on LinkedIn pretty easily. The source code and IP for voat was given to London Trust media. They had some project called edon.garden that fell through.
My hot take wasn't that he didn't give a shit - it just appeared he was the wrong guy to be in charge, because he wasn't capable of making harsh business decisions.
Justin was in a constant state of quasi-conflict over his desire to maintain the project as a personal & emotional hobby, which clashed openly with his constant pressure (both outside, and probably inflicted upon himself) to run the project like a business. These two things don't typically work if you try to do both - you'll always end up being conflicted over decisions that are dictated by business continuity (especially in a reactionary manner towards the behavior of the users) vs. your ideological desires or boundaries.
From the outside looking in, it seems like you're in the same (or similar?) rut. So many things you could do like voting transparency which would ultimately shape the future of this place, but you're unwilling to deal with the short term shitshow that would erupt with making the place long-term viable.
I've spent 25 years watching people make similar mistakes, and they're all gone now for a reason.
First thing I thought was that this was a goat who was going to troll the fuck out of some normies. Then when I read the reddit thread, its not even a goat, its just some clueless faggot who doesnt know how copyright works.

Interestingly, I’ve found myself facing a similar situation albeit with a far greater timespan. I started doing historical research for a long defunct company. Went ahead and bought the domain name. The company no longer exists and this was long before the internet but Indid manage to find the guy who bought the company. It was an asset sale and the name changed many decades ago. So as far as I’m concerned, I am the closest authority on the company.
I’m not stealing anything though. My goal is to honor history and to create a proper record of lost history!
You don't have to register a trademark, anything you create (or hire the creation of, or license) means you own the copyright and that's the part that protects it for your own exclusive use.

The VOAT trademark is currently active and registered to a David D Gillard, MD, LLC
Speaking of: why are we Talk.lol but our domain is Voat.xyz? Surely, this is an issue with branding.
Oh, i see talk.lol redirects to the same website. I have getting here through the voat URL. So we are officially talk.lol
