My rescue was like that. Took him awhile to stop cowering at everything I did. Now he's learned to come to me when he wants something and is always wagging his tail and lazing around.
He looks so happy in the second pic. Glad he gets along with the other dog too. Genuinely heartwarming to see, in a way I can't even put into words. I get it.
My current Great Dane is a love dog. She's a coward when it comes to doing any guard work, but she's incredibly focused and vocal when it comes to sounds or other people around my property that she knows shouldn't be there. She's too big to fit on the couch, and yet that's where I always find her chilling. That or the top of the staircase surveying her territory for threats, or humans getting food out of the refrigerator.
