Chocolate is barely poisonous to dogs, unless it's a really little dog who ate a bunch of dark chocolate. Normal sized dogs though, can eat a lot of chocolate before even the slightest hint of a problem.
When I was a kid, I didn’t know some human foods were bad for dogs. There was no internet to spread this info. I always shared my snacks with T-Bone. Oreos, grapes, onions, chocolate. He showed no signs of illness, he loved it. Back in those days, there wasn’t a kid alive with peanut allergies, or any other kind of allergy. What ever happened to people, also happened to dogs.
T-Bone cruised for 18 years. Very old for an Australian Shepherd. I took him back from my parents at 28, when I bought my first house that had a yard. He passed while I was on my honeymoon. I think he was hanging on until I got a wife.
Me and my wife never went on our honeymoon because my dog Sacha was dying from cancer. Instead I took the week off after our wedding and just spent all my time with him. He was half retarded but I still miss him.
Grapes and onions aren’t that bad for dogs. They’d need to consume a lot relative to their body weight to get in trouble. Some dogs are dumb enough to fill their stomach though. Still it’s a greater risk for small dogs than a real dog. Raisins though could be a problem if a dog got into a big box of them.

As long as you don't do it often it's fine. The real problem with chocolate is it takes a long time for their bodies to filter the bad stuff and it can build up over time.
I read an article claiming that there is less than 5% cacao in name brand milk chocolate. The only reason it can still be called chocolate is because Nestle and Hershey's parent companies have spent obscene amounts of money lobbying the FDA to allow the continued classification. You would need to feed your dog a cubic fuck-ton of milk-chocolate to even make it sick. The occasional chip or kiss or cube from a candy bar will do absolutely nothing to the animal. BAKERS chocolate on the other hand is 100% cacao and in sufficient quantities, that can be fatal. Roughly one pound to be exact. The consumer candy we're talking about doesn't even merit consideration, let alone concern.
The claim was that it was toxic. I unequivocally illustrated that it's not even remotely toxic.
I posted the approximate fatal dose and the concentration. I provided the rough percentage of cacao present in leading brand faux-chocolates. I demonstrated that there is precisely zero reason to carry that nonsense argument forward.
Now you're trying to argue should's and ought's? Fuck that.
You feed your dog according to your finances and conscience. I've no problem giving mine the occasional chocolate chip.
Chemistry, I guess... There is cacao in their products, but in America they have been dialing back the percentage since around 2005 if memory serves. It used to be 10% was the legal minimum.
I give my dog samples of chocolate all of the time. You're a retard if you think a little taste of chocolate now and then is going to do anything negative to your dog.
I wouldn't be surprised if the pet foods that the vets recommend do worse things to your dog over time than tossing them a damn M&M once in awhile.
chocolate is not what is bad for dogs. caffeine is. I had a rottie who ate at separate times a 2 tier finished German chocolate cake, and the large (1lb?) size Mr goodbar. she is gone now (many years ago) from unrated issues. I just lost my special boy about 2 months ago and it's still fresh. it still hurts.
miss you bud. if there's a god he must've wanted you awful bad to take you so early. always remembered.
correct as it acts very similar to caffeine and can't be metabolized by dogs. in all my experiences the chocolate was refined and or milk and thus all the "added benefits" were likely removed during the refining. coffee as an example, light roasts have more caffeine than dark as caffeine and tons of other chemicals change or get burned off during roasting.

Giving a dog your average sub-5% piece of milk 'chocolate' is harmless.
