I have the same problem. They use the Opus audio codec. I think the browser croaks on it. What I do is copy the link and play it in VLC. Then it works. You can do the same.

Yeah sounds like it could be a codec problem. I refuse to update my browser which might alleviate this problem but frankly I dont care that much.

Often updating you browser won't solve the problem. When it was developed they decided to only include support for web standard codecs, which is understandable. They probably don't have additional codec support in the update.

Really people just need to learn to output videos for web, or better yet, stop re-encoding them to begin with. I suppose maybe they re-encode them because catbox has pretty tight size limitations. But gvid and pomf2.lain.la don't. And seeing as catbox has been getting less reliable we should be migrating away from it anyway. Then we can just use original versions of videos, we get better quality, and we don't have to deal with everyone's random video settings.

Have any of these videos ever worked? Because we have 100 odd users and this just just 32 upvotes and no everyone is viewing and upvoting. My vids work for the clear and vast majority of all users apparently.

I'm not being a dick about it. I'd like you to see it and be involved.

Try using different browsers, using desktop login, and adding codec packs to view more media file types (encoding from source to .mp4 might be an issue), originally I thought it was a region loocked issue from host.

Browser plugins might assist with viewing content.

Have you tried opening the video in another window?

Do any of the videos every work? Can you see uploaded pictures I post?

Usually for web its a good idea to output to the most widely viewable codec's possible. Just because many browsers manage to expand coverage for "not for web" videos doesn't mean it isn't a good idea to target what is the most broadly playable. Maybe there is a lot that can be done on both sides to meet in the middle but you do have less than standard codecs on both video and audio.

So for audio the most standard is `aac`, and for video that's `libx264` for quality or `h264_nvenc` for gpu accelerated but might come out looking blocky if there is any low light or lot of movement.

This is my goto:
`ffmpeg -i "your source file or url" -c:v libx264 -c:a aac out.mp4

MP4s can play on an iphone. It depends on what's in the mp4. Mp4 vs mkv vs webm is like .zip, .rar, .tar.gz. It's just a container format. AV1 and Opus are definitely less standard.

As far as I can tell the Opus audio codec may be the issue. I play them on VLC and I am on Windows, then it works. But I have an old browser which probably can't handle Opus.
