Video: James Webb Telescope Announces a Disturbing Discovery About Betelgeuse - Well I was up early Wednesday morning Betelgeuse was a few degrees above the eastern horizon, it looked absolutely normal ..

When the Betelgeuse brouhaha broke a couple of yrs ago I began taking particular interest in the star, it is possible it could have dimmed by about half of one magnitude for a while, however months ago before the Sun rendered it invisible it seemed ok to me, while there were no extra brightenings the whole time that I witnessed. 20 minute video. Skimmed around and couldn't figure out what the disturbing discovery was so don't bother clicking unless you have time to kill.

Agreed. Very annoying post. The guy should just say what the hell it is that Beetlejuice is supposed to be doing.

The dumbest part is I like space stuff, so I might have even watched it if I knew what it was about instead of being annoyed about the vague clickbait.

It is getting ready to go supernova. Like the Yellowstone caldera, it could easily be thousands of years from now.

Someone should tell elon.

Because if that's going to happen in a thousand years is really no sense in setting up a colony on Mars that would also be wiped out. He could be doing hookers and blow instead

The implication is that it is going to go supernova in the near future. Near future is a relative term though. It could be a thousand years from now and that would still be considered ‘soon’ from a cosmological standpoint.

it’s close enough to kill everything on earth

No, it isn't.

You are correct. I’ll fix it.
