On The Virtues of Being Dangerous

If other Men (and assorted and sundry creatures that at might first glance appear to be men) don't look at you, automatically do the mental calculus, and come to the conclusion, "You know what? I don't think I'm going to fuck with this guy today.", then you should take that as a sign that you need to work on yourself. Because you are only as good as what you are capable of right now, drop of a hat. Any hat.

A truly dangerous Man can often shut down trouble before it ever starts, just by walking in the room.

For about forty years I was blessed to have had the great good fortune to have lived and worked among some of the most dangerous Men on the planet. The kind of guys that in real life, would make Jason Bourne piss his pants.
And they were also some of the nicest guys you'd ever want to meet. Family Men. Men of faith. Solid, stable, and durable. 100% guaranteed not to rust, bust, or collect dust.

But when the light goes green and the mission timer starts, the one place in all the world you don't want to be is in front of them.

The safest place on Earth? Anywhere behind them.

Cowboy Dewayne Noel from the Dry Creek Wrangler school has some exceptional words of wisdom. I appreciate this post.

I heard several variations of the same theme while growing up, and throughout my life, but he put it well, and on video. It is a message that bears repeating to every young man.

My Dad, Uncles, Great-uncles, Grandfathers, Scout leaders, basically every adult Man in my family growing up, gave us kids the same message, but it was only ever recorded in my heart. My maternal grandfather was still bucking hay bales into his 80's, and he once knocked a young BulletStopper flat on his ass when he made the mistake of running his mouth a little bit reckless about things he didn't know anything about. Lesson: "Don't mess with old guys. They just don't have any time for your shit."

Even our parish priest (who was completely unlike every other priest I have ever known, having been a coal miner and a Marine infantry Vietnam vet before he ever got the call, was a boxer and later coached us kids, and a marathon runner who inspired me to take up long-distance running as a form of prayer and self-discipline. I always said that if he'd been born earlier he'd have been killing Saracens by the bushel.)

I was truly blessed, and I thank God for it every day.

I'm holding a live grenade and I just swallowed the pin.

If that were true, I'd say "Let her rip, Sunshine. See what comes next. It'll cost me nothing."
