Home baked is so much better

submitted by SignedUp to whatever 9 monthsJul 16, 2023 21:05:42 ago (+32/-0)     (whatever)

If you do crave a cookie or a muffin, instead of buying processed goyslop cookies, bake it yourself! I've done so plenty of times and it tastes so much better than that supermarket filth. Preferably from scratch, but a pre-mixed box will do too where you just have to add like eggs and water. It's easy and cheap.
Baking shit yourself > buying prepackaged processed goyslop.

Pre-mixed box is every bit as much goyslop

It just expresses so much

Since OP won't deliver, here's my favorite cookie recipe:

2 sticks unsalted butter at room temperature
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
2 eggs
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 to 2 1/4 cups gluten free flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips or chunks

Bake 8-10 minutes at 350°. I use King Arthur GF all purpose flour. Best cookies I've ever had.

From someone who had never baked before, making cookies from scratch was far easier than I thought. Protip: an electric mixer is totally unnecessary and just complicates things, unless you're making a mega batch of cookies. A wooden spoon and mixing bowl is sufficient.

As with other foods, the real benefit is being able to customize it to your liking. I tend to greatly reduce the sugar in things (I don't even put sugar in my apple pie).

What apples do you use if you dont add sugar?

[ - ] Prairie 3 points 9 monthsJul 17, 2023 07:11:20 ago (+3/-0)

Gala. I do put a tiny but of honey on after it's in the bowl to eat. Plus lots of cinnamon sprinkled on the apples before putting in the oven.

Over the years making them I've found Gala to work the best. Fuji stay way too damn crisp. Red delicious tend to turn to applesauce mush after baking.

Oh we have a rule breaker. Gala.

The gay kind

Ha. Its ok , the gay gets baked away.

Wife bakes bread regularly enough that it's just the bread we eat now.

Kinda made fun of her about it at first, but now I'm eating my words and her tasty fresh bread

[ - ] bobdole9 4 points 9 monthsJul 16, 2023 21:10:50 ago (+4/-0)

But what if I'm craving the nostalgic taste of foam???

[ - ] Gowithit 4 points 9 monthsJul 16, 2023 21:18:00 ago (+4/-0)*

My kid. I wanted german chocolate cake. A lot. I had a small box but I wanted double layer so figured make a little extra to add to the box.

Made more than enough to make a full cake so again figured screw the boxed we will save it for later.

Daughter after cake was done complained. How? It was delicious! Way better than that pos duncan heines.

" Yes but sometimes you just want that processed taste"

I failed as a parent. I didnt but in that moment I felt I had.

i went away from the premixed stuff a while ago. Might as well just take flower, baking powder, and sugar instead of a box with all those things plus some mystery ingredients.
Anything baked fresh and still warm is much more delicious than store bought.

Just about everything is better when made from base ingredients.

Lots of it is no more difficult than boxed shit.

mead is so easy you almost can't fuck it up, got an apiary down the road too, I had one of my employees do some work for her during covid when it was hard to find work, now when I go by there I bring one of my 1g carboy's and she fills it up and I can make 3 jugs off that.

Men don’t bake

[ - ] BoozyB 2 points 9 monthsJul 17, 2023 08:38:20 ago (+2/-0)

Most great chefs are men. Cooking requires creativity.
Baking is chemistry, and the rules (recipe) must be followed for best results. Women are or should be best at it.

[ - ] Ragnar 1 point 9 monthsJul 17, 2023 10:33:53 ago (+1/-0)

Most great CHEFS are men.

All bakers are women (including homosexual men)

[ - ] SignedUp [op] 1 point 9 monthsJul 19, 2023 07:09:46 ago (+1/-0)

All bakeries are run by men and they all bake the bread and cakes and cookies. It's a skill, a trade and one men are best at.

[ - ] Ragnar 0 points 9 monthsJul 19, 2023 11:22:55 ago (+0/-0)

Bread, yes. Cakes and pastries, no.
Only homosexual men bake cute little cupcakes and other bullshit.

A real man grills.

You have big teeth.

[ - ] TheOriginal1Icemonkey 0 points 9 monthsJul 17, 2023 10:56:35 ago (+0/-0)

You’re a fag. Go to a high end bakery where they charge $12 for two cookies and enjoy having someone else cook for you.

[ - ] Gowithit 1 point 9 monthsJul 17, 2023 17:57:29 ago (+1/-0)

2 for 12? isnt that subways nowadays? Shit at least you might get a show while you're there.

[ - ] SignedUp [op] 1 point 9 monthsJul 19, 2023 07:08:50 ago (+1/-0)*

Where they still add a bunch of goyslop ingredients into it. You're just mad because you burn the cookies every time.

[ - ] TheOriginal1Icemonkey 0 points 9 monthsJul 19, 2023 22:41:05 ago (+0/-0)

Not in the good bakeries. On the left coast we have all these high end all organic places. They actually make really good stuff, it’s just pricey as hell.

[ - ] 3Whuurs 0 points 9 monthsJul 17, 2023 01:52:10 ago (+0/-0)

Agreed!
I’ll make a batch of no-baked cookies 2-3x/year that are basically fudge when made just right.
Just the few ingredient mods I like to make, have a significant effect.
Not sure about other cookies, but for these I’ve found cutting the peanut butter, and swapping the White sugar and cocoa for organic palm sugar and organic Alkalized Dutch cocoa.
Neither taste good on their own but I’ve had 4 friend# tell me they made the best no-baked cookies they’ve had.
Simple af to make to.

Homemade oatmeal creme pies are the shit.
Any simple cookie recipe works.
Cut canned cream cheese frosting with more cream cheese and mix well.
Little Debbie ain't even fucking close
