They left out some important performance points.

1) Posturing when the suspect is first taping the arms is important. When they first approach with the tape, but before they start taping, feign compliance by positioning your hands together in front of you, palms together, fingers straight (as if praying). Forearms as close together as possible, elbows touching if you can. This reduces any slack in the tape, increases your leverage, and makes the break easier.

2) The lace method does NOT WORK if you have nylon laces. They will melt and break from the friction. Cotton laces will work or, you can go the extra mile and get something like these:

Moral of the story. If you tie someone up and want them immobile anyway, take their shoes. And use proper zip ties. And put them in a chair with their legs constrained (constrain their legs in general).

Your main job is to constrain their legs. The only reason to tie up someone's hands is because you fear their thumbs undoing what you did with legs. You could leave someones hands completely untied if you just constrained their legs properly and broke their thumbs.
