HT is well known and loved. He's not a grifter and puts himself on the line regularly. If he needs money he can ask for it.

HT shows that spreading the word both online and IRL is his full time occupation. He can encourage donations all he wants, but he pretty much never does, he just shout-outs the donors a lot. Thats not grifting.
