Catbox is making me doxx myself.

submitted by dontknowwhatiwant to Discussion 9 monthsJul 11, 2023 14:24:55 ago (+9/-0)     (Discussion)

Been here for a while now, been using the paid version of Proton VPN the entire time.

Just a few days ago, Catbox refused to show anything when connected to Proton VPN, so if I want to surf, I have to expose my traffic to my ISP.
Also, archive.is makes me jump through at least a dozen clicks just to prove I am human (been going on a while now). Now that I think about it, just recently a bunch of sites have been having problems with my VPN.

Hate this because this is one of the only sane places left.

Wondering if anyone is also having this problems with any other VPN's? Was thinking of adding a second to be able to surf sites which block Proton. Any suggestions?

I would put a lot less faith in your VPN than you have. It’s not anonymous and you’re not being sneaky.

You’re just aggregating all of your secrets into one place instead of blending in with the billions of normies

Proton is owned by jews.

OP needs Mullvad, IVPN or AirVPN, paid for using Monero (XMR)

Turn off netshield and it works.

THANK YOU!

It was not the "web" that all of a sudden started fucking up my surfing, it was "Netshield!" Must have been a recent change.

I was curious if it had to do with internet lock downs after France lit up. Time line seems to match up but no evidence otherwise.

In the event you do run into VPN bans in the future, try obfuscated servers. They route VPN traffic through different ports. They aren't foolproof but it usually takes a lot longer for them to get banned.

Archive.is actively seeks to block all forms of proxies and VPNs. Finding one that works is difficult. It should be pretty obvious they have an agenda of harvesting dissenter IPs.

Catbox didn't used to be this way, but has been slowly blocking more and more as well. Not sure if they have similar motives, or just do it as a knee-jerk reaction whenever someone tries uploading CP that way. Either way, blocking all access, when they could just block uploads, is lazy and nonsensical.

In any case, it would be great to have alternatives.

I don't know if it's that, or that you have the bad actors generally using vpn's. I had a single connection that had been working for a long while, and then all of a sudden, it started getting blocked by everyone.

Even talk/voat was blocking certain connections for a while through their cloud flare policy. Bad actors need to keep switching it up as far as an IP, so that is why they get polluted.

As far as what @StealthNinjaTaliban, there is definitely truth to that, but again, it is your ISP you are generally trying to hide the traffic from.

Other than that, a court order is a court order, which is why it is a good idea to consistently switch IP's.

Again, once you are logged in via jewTube, twitter, or any other social media account, it is useless, besides the fact that the fingerprinting that they do now, can identify you whatever IP you come from.

I pissed a fag off once and my site was getting hit by 0days from tor addresses. Had to block tor. I suspect similar reasons for these blocks.

I mean, I could maybe understand the site and upload portal, but I question the utility of blocking read access to static .jpgs.

prevent server load attacks perhaps. like loading the same large file over and over.

Have you tried connecting through different VPN locations?

[ - ] dontknowwhatiwant [op] 1 point 9 monthsJul 11, 2023 19:57:10 ago (+1/-0)

yes. Have not played with other countries yet, just the states.

[ - ] dontknowwhatiwant [op] 1 point 9 monthsJul 11, 2023 19:59:08 ago (+1/-0)

Right now tried 6 different countries, every one blocked.

A lot of aggregation seems to occur with data. Our corporate VPN which we host privately to provide ACL access to "internal" resources across the internet gets flagged for suspicious activity all the time.

Places like MaxMind have databases available for detecting a VPN, Tor exit nodes, etc. They call it their fraud detection database. Implementing it as part of the IP filter helps to halt VPN users to want to otherwise circumvent some rule, legality, etc. Utilizing a VPN for your own purposes puts you in the same bucket.

At the end of the day no VPN can be trusted and the various governments control a fuck ton of ingress and egress nodes for TOR so your ability to stay hidden there is relatively small, should they choose to target you directly.

Staying "hidden" requires a fair bit more work than just turning on a VPN these days.

With proton, does that allow you to switch the IP, or are all proton IP's being blocked?

[ - ] dontknowwhatiwant [op] 1 point 9 monthsJul 13, 2023 23:01:33 ago (+1/-0)

Yes, can switch IP's, all were being blocked, turns out the problem was with Proton itself in its "Netsheild". Turned that off everything started working again.

Catbox is feasible because of the great hosting rates provided by AWS. (I think it's AWS, maybe it's Cloudflare?) Anyway, hosting it on rented bare metal would raise its cost by an order of magnitude.

[ - ] x0x7 1 point 9 monthsJul 11, 2023 20:50:08 ago (+1/-0)

Catbox has colocation. It is on bare metal. But that's also irrelevant to their Tor/VPN policy.

Doxxing is always a mystery to me. I have had an appliance repair business since 2004 and advertised on the open web for that whole time. My name, address and phone number have been out there the whole time. It's called advertising. But not once have I regretted it or had a reason to regret it. But here in this forum, people fear being exposed. Look folks, the government knows exactly who you are what you think, what you do and don't do. They always did and always will. You have no secrets, not from the government. So relax.

Big Brother is watching you. Meh.

[ - ] Sector7 3 points 9 monthsJul 11, 2023 18:56:10 ago (+3/-0)

Some fear the government, but it's the crazies you don't want to have your info. They'll harass your neighbors with claims you rape children. They'll harass anyone associated with you and make normal life impossible to live. Only happens to a few that fall under their gaze, but you really want to avoid being their target.

If you were to express anti-tranny or anti-faggot sentiments on your site, or on an account somehow linked to your site, your experience of no regrets might change.
