It's mostly about their dowry system. A wife has little ability to help a growing family financially, so the parents of a daughter have to fork over a large sum to make a young couple economically viable. But at the same time, the parents of a son know that the female's family will pay up to get rid of her, so the future husband is expecting a big wad of cash at the wedding.

Many stories hit the news of men harming or killing the wife if the dowry is insufficient. He will of course keep the widfall and hope to remarry a wealthier family's daughter. Quite a racket in India.

Would also explain why they're so rapey and desperate to get into other lands: not enough of their women to go around.

It has nothing to do with a lack of women; if anything, there's too many. What it really has to do with is that the entire culture is built around enforcement of religious rules, and the religious rules specify that men shouldn't rape. They also say that men shouldn't have sex until marriage, even throughout their youth. The lack of sex and the constant reinforcement that they "shouldn't" rape are pretty much a catalyst for making it happen regularly. Women are also considered inferior, and they're very submissive, to the point of concealing their sexual abuse to not "create trouble." As long as women don't identify their rapists publicly and men are constantly bombarded with messages to NOT rape (thus incentivizing them), the environment is conducive for rape to continue in greater numbers.

yea, obviously they can't take the temptation of their 12 year old daughters walking around the house all flirty and just asking for the molestation...
