Dune is set thousands of years in the future of this galaxy. This inspired George Lucas to write the script for Star Wars. In the original script, Han Solo was a spice smuggler, indicating that Star Wars was intended as a Dune spinoff. That’s why Star Wars begins with “... a long time ago, in a galaxy far, away ...” for legal reasons.

The Amazon version of Dune, although not as absolutely retarded as their series based on Tolkien, does share with it the emphasis on pushing anti-human woke bullshit to the degree it misses every fucking point.

I've read the entire series many years ago. The first book is ok for a sci-fi book, but the remainder of the books were not so great. The story is mediocre, but I think the real charm of the books is the creation of the universe (society, technology, customs, etc.) that revolve around the story. The main character is a bit wimpy and lost, and is not really inspiring.
the movies (pre-amazon) were entertaining and worth watching, but not high on the list of favorites. I haven't seen the amazon versions.

star wars is a soap opera in space, written for the screen, with no backstory or anything.

Dune was written to be read, to be contemplated, to inspire and to experience. turning it into a movie kills 88% of the appeal.

but you also have to judge both series by the time they were written. people back then were stupid.
