Seriously. My first thought was "Sails? They think they came up with fucking sails?" Must be those imported engineers.

[ - ] GloryBeckons 5 points 10 monthsJul 1, 2023 07:52:06 ago (+5/-0)

Sails are way better than this.

They're upright wings, not kites. They don't need to catch the wind from behind. In fact, sails are more effective when it comes from the side or front. You can sail almost directly into the wind, with a very small dead zone which can be avoided with a tight zig-zag pattern. You can adjust them for fair weather and stormy conditions. The masts can transfer the load more evenly across the hull. The keel helps cut a channel through the water and stabilizes the ship. Sailing ships are beautiful feats of human ingenuity and engineering.

This abomination is idiocratic degeneration in action.

[ - ] TheGreatWar 3 points 10 monthsJul 1, 2023 12:27:50 ago (+3/-0)

You can do the same with a kite because kites are wings too. Kite surfers tack upwind all the time.

As an aside, a kite and a hydrofoil, with no displacement hull, connected only in tension could possibly be the fastest thing on the water. All that's needed is a flow gradient to exist between water and air. The RC speed record of 548 mph is currently held by a glider that used only the wind gradient on the lee side of a hill. Dynamic soaring is merely flying in a circuitous path to alternate between acting as keel and sail, where momentum alone carries the energy from the sail to the keel and vice versa. It is theoretically possible to dynamically soar between air and water, however the density ratio of the two fluids (about 800:1) makes engineering such a craft inconceivable in practice. However two separate foilcraft, one for water and one for air connected in tension, is doable. It might be a good project for a smart kid interested in control theory and stability augmentation.

That's interesting insight, thank you for that. Perhaps I was too quick to judge.

I will insist, however, that it is criminally ugly and awkward looking when compared to traditional schooner or tall ship.

[ - ] Jinglebanger 0 points 10 monthsJul 1, 2023 15:50:19 ago (+0/-0)

No, you judged it right. The idea in and of itself boondoggle; a thought experiment some psychopath realized he could possibly dupe people with money into paying him for.

[ - ] Weredawg 0 points 10 monthsJul 1, 2023 09:41:04 ago (+0/-0)

That's kinda what I figured, that actual sails are better in every way, but my knowledge of sails is pretty limited.

[ - ] dosvydanya_freedomz [op] 2 points 10 monthsJul 1, 2023 07:31:39 ago (+2/-0)

yeah these ppl are beyond retarded for solutions to a non existent problem. think about that for a min

[ - ] Weredawg 0 points 10 monthsJul 1, 2023 07:41:00 ago (+0/-0)

I'd rather not.

[ - ] Sector7 0 points 10 monthsJul 1, 2023 12:41:39 ago (+0/-0)

Technically, the solution is for the problem of fuel costs per day of $225,000 for large cargo ships. It would only be retarded if the contraption doesn't work. If it does, I know I'd be open to saving $45,000 per day.

[ - ] Jinglebanger 0 points 10 monthsJul 1, 2023 15:44:21 ago (+0/-0)

Of course it doesn't work. It's like the "we can use algae to generate electricity for the world" horseshit. Its plausibility is rooted in ignorance and cartoon physics.

[ - ] Conspirologist 7 points 10 monthsJul 1, 2023 08:10:53 ago (+9/-2)

LOL I've read giant kikes.

[ - ] PotatoWhisperer2 4 points 10 monthsJul 1, 2023 10:42:47 ago (+4/-0)

Put the nose on the front and hang a penny in front of that.

[ - ] x0x7 2 points 10 monthsJul 1, 2023 13:42:44 ago (+2/-0)

Bulbous bow. There was once a copypasta about how the jew evolved his nose being kicked out of so many countries that he developed better aerodynamics.

[ - ] dosvydanya_freedomz [op] 1 point 10 monthsJul 1, 2023 08:13:34 ago (+1/-0)

too funny

[ - ] bonghits4jeebus 0 points 10 monthsJul 1, 2023 16:05:16 ago (+0/-0)

Me too.

[ - ] autotic 3 points 10 monthsJul 1, 2023 07:41:50 ago (+3/-0)

I remember seeing previous efforts at these sorts of things at least 15 years ago. It will be useful as a backup to limp into port when these idiots roll out their electric cargo ships and run out of juice half way.

[ - ] Spaceman84 1 point 10 monthsJul 1, 2023 09:43:21 ago (+1/-0)

In that case they should do windmills instead of kites.

[ - ] ItsOk2bArian 0 points 10 monthsJul 1, 2023 10:27:35 ago (+0/-0)

[ - ] yesiknow 3 points 10 monthsJul 1, 2023 07:39:26 ago (+3/-0)

Oh yeah of course. The stupidity couldn't be guaranteed to fail because everyone who gets communism gets gets restricted food and energy because the fuckin crazy jews think Whites and Asians stole light and energy from them, and they own everything that exists.

[ - ] Thyhorrorcosmic103 3 points 10 monthsJul 1, 2023 07:35:23 ago (+3/-0)

We have come full circle with these retards.

[ - ] Sector7 2 points 10 monthsJul 1, 2023 12:27:23 ago (+2/-0)

These mammoth engines consume approx 16 tons of fuel per hour or 380 tons per day while at sea.

Imagine the $ in your pocket if you could cut this by 20%.

https://shipandbunker.com/prices

Take $600/ton as the average. For the engine above, that's $228,000 in fuel costs per day. Would you let the mention of CO2 and global warming in an article deter you from cutting your costs by $46,000 per day? "But what if people think I believe in human caused climate change?"

Assuming it works as advertised, of course. Numbers are for the largest cargo ships.

"On average, a cargo ship can burn through 20 to 70 tons of fuel per day and up to 400 tons per day, depending on its size and speed."

Adjust as needed for the size and speed of your cargo ship.

Have they put solar on any of these babies yet?

[ - ] Sector7 1 point 10 monthsJul 1, 2023 13:23:34 ago (+1/-0)

Probably a few as a backup. Seems they would mostly rely on backup generators. Ships tend to be heavy duty work environments with not a lot of room for delicate solar panels.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SWjIZds6FCA

But that doesn't stop the fantasy.

[ - ] SocksOnCats 1 point 10 monthsJul 1, 2023 13:12:15 ago (+1/-0)

I can’t wait to see this implemented and then the disasters which follow due to the mud-class of crew on these ships. I’ll have my popcorn ready. The sub-human muds crewing these ships can barely do the job now. Add in a complex kite mechanism and wind physics? Ha. It’ll be hilarious.

[ - ] dulcima 1 point 10 monthsJul 1, 2023 10:44:00 ago (+1/-0)

WTF. Most retarded thing I've read today.

[ - ] Sector7 0 points 10 monthsJul 1, 2023 12:35:58 ago (+0/-0)

If it works as advertised, you (as a large cargo ship operator) could save up to $30 per minute in fuel costs on a 28 day voyage.

[ - ] Hh 1 point 10 monthsJul 1, 2023 10:32:59 ago (+1/-0)

Time for some nigger to say they invented sails now

[ - ] ilikeskittles 0 points 10 monthsJul 2, 2023 10:57:04 ago (+0/-0)

Why would dragging a kike help?

[ - ] PostWallHelena 1 point 10 monthsJul 1, 2023 08:55:53 ago (+1/-0)

I read this:
Giant KIKES could pull cargo ships

It would have to be a big kike, I thought.

[ - ] Spaceman84 2 points 10 monthsJul 1, 2023 09:47:33 ago (+2/-0)

Attack on Titan is predictive programming. The kikes are engineering ultragigajews by crossing deepwater jew DNA with hyperborean giant DNA so that they can walk on the ocean floor.

[ - ] PostWallHelena 4 points 10 monthsJul 1, 2023 10:01:25 ago (+4/-0)

Kai-jew. Get it? Kai-jew?

[ - ] gimpyoldman 1 point 10 monthsJul 1, 2023 08:50:12 ago (+1/-0)

Imagine 1000s of cargo ships huddled around ports, waiting for a favorable wind to depart for their next port.

[ - ] carnold03 0 points 10 monthsJul 1, 2023 22:09:48 ago (+0/-0)

So, their idea is to exclusively use sails?

[ - ] AngryWhiteKeyboardWarrior 0 points 10 monthsJul 1, 2023 21:49:07 ago (+0/-0)

And what happens when your 1000 square meter kite fails and falls into the ocean?

Cut the lines quick before you now have a 1000 square meter anchor filling with water and heading for the bottom?

[ - ] Zylazineinmypants 0 points 10 monthsJul 1, 2023 15:23:12 ago (+0/-0)

Yeah, I think they call them "sails".

[ - ] Artificial_Intelligentile 0 points 10 monthsJul 1, 2023 14:25:43 ago (+0/-0)

aw come on guys. these ideas are around for two decades now and theres still not a single person around who has some insight or even oversight information on what this tech proposes???

but yeah, if it were as easy as they say, it would be everywhere by now.

i prefer real sailing ships though, which have a motor when theres no wind.

just dont buy tons of stuff from overseas, then we dont need thousands of tons of steel cycling around the world.

i despise mindless consumerism

[ - ] RMGoetbbels 0 points 10 monthsJul 1, 2023 13:55:05 ago (+0/-0)

This is 2006 technology and old news that cntrash is digging up to fill a void.

Yes, supposedly it works and will pay for itself over time but if it was a good idea then it would be implemented and it isn't. At least not yet.

and fuck you for not archiving it. I will not read ccn trash.

[ - ] Nosferatjew 0 points 10 monthsJul 1, 2023 13:07:25 ago (+0/-0)

So, like, sail boats. And when there's no wind, what do?

[ - ] Anus_Expander 0 points 10 monthsJul 1, 2023 12:57:31 ago (+0/-0)

Laughable. If it were financially viable, it would be happening already. Sails are great until the wind dies, or there's a storm. Lots of wear and tear too.

They’ve talked about this for twenty years now. Doesn’t ever seem to go anywhere. At best there might be one or two boats built as demonstrations but it will never take off commercially.
