YouTube Possibly Testing New 3-Strikes System for Adblock Users

This coincides with the company's recent ramping-up of measures against Invidious, both legal and technical.

https://github.com/iv-org/invidious/issues/3872
https://archive.fo/cJCRD

Some of you may have noticed that it has become more commonplace in recent weeks to encounter instances of Invidious either not functioning correctly or being the video blocked by YouTube.
Obviously, this is to force users back onto the main site where they would be forced to participate in the revenue-generating scheme.
However, the original article makes an important note:

We’ve asked Google for confirmation of this three-strikes feature on YouTube, as well as whether it’s a test and exactly how it will work. We’ve also asked what this policy would mean for the Google accounts of offending users.

Because they have been known to lock users out of the entire family of Google products before, most-notably Gmail, which many Android owners find necessary in order to get the full functionality of their device.

tl;dr: Fuck Google.

The day I'm forced to watch ads on TH3mTube is the last day I go there.

I have hope that adblock will make their code harder for jewgle to detect, jewgle will find a way to detect it, adblock will change again, etc.

Very nice way for adblock coders to test their skills.

Why can google not simply detect you not streaming the ad videos and refuse to serve you regular videos? There is the problem of what constitutes "you" there, but Google is pretty good at solving that, I hear.

There was an extension that would download ads (but not display them) and simulate a click to each one. It was banned from the Google extension market.

Can still just download and use it tho

If you can recall the name of the extension, you may be able to find it by digging around a bit at places like github or the Internet Archive's software collection, among others (I'm sure goats will know of other places to check.)
I'm beginning to learn this, myself, because I refuse to register my Gmail account with my Android, so the store is off-limits (I'm sure there's a way to use an Android emulator, like Bluestacks, to save and sideload an extension, but I'm being lazy and petulant.)

adnauseam sounds like what you are describing?

[ - ] TheYiddler 1 point 10 monthsJun 30, 2023 23:18:01 ago (+1/-0)

Yeah, that's it. The extension that really fucks with Google's data collection.

[ - ] bonghits4jeebus 0 points 10 monthsJun 30, 2023 16:49:50 ago (+0/-0)

I guess if you click you don't have to watch the ad?

So a YouTube alternative is coming sooner than later, it's just a matter of when Google pushes people to it.

That time is rapidly approaching, it would seem.

don't hold your breath, video hosting is very expensive

[ - ] TheYiddler 0 points 10 monthsJun 30, 2023 06:21:22 ago (+0/-0)

And very subsidized.

What's even worse is that young millennials and zoomer tards don't mind ads. Combine that with normalfags who are too lazy to not use ad blockers or use YouTube vanced on their devices, jewgle isn't going to do a damn thing. Brain-dead NPCs are why we can't have nice things.

Once great platform is more and more irrelevant.

I'm surprised anyone would bother to sign into jootoob to use it at all, much less link anything joogle account related.

The only good thing about a joogle phone is it is completely dojoogleable.

Need to sign in to make comments. Back in the day, comments were not censored. Sign in also gives you access to your subscriptions and makes your recommended feed not complete trash.

Good point on the sign-in.
In order to make this enforceable, it would mean they would need tracking above and beyond what they do now (short of requiring a viewer be logged in to use the site, that is.)
This could be a sign of bigger things to come and not just greedy-assed kikes on the board being greedy-assed kikes.
May not mean a whole lot for goats, but a lot of us still post videos, even if they're routed through a service like Invidious.

[ - ] bonghits4jeebus 0 points 10 monthsJun 30, 2023 01:04:32 ago (+0/-0)

The main advantage of the joogle phone is that you can put what you want on it, yeah. I'm not entirely sure why google makes them. For developers, I thought, at one point.

All of the other guys really love locking you out, and it's difficult to figure out ahead of time if you're phone is going to be rootable/flashable. Sometimes they release a new update where older shipped phones will work but new ones do not. And you have to use forums to keep track.

most phones come with a locked bootloader.

On a lighter note: https://yewtu.be/watch?v=pqyhkMPFQqM

Allowlisted?

[ - ] fritz_maurentod 0 points 10 monthsJun 30, 2023 08:20:53 ago (+0/-0)

I keep looking for an excuse to avoid using youtube. If they ban me, I'm never going back. Unfortunately rumble, odysee, etc. are controlled by the same group of people.
