If anyone has any questions I scythe an acre of paddock out the back of my place twice every year. It's amazing exercise and doesn't hurt your back if you do it properly and if it's the right length snath.
The benefit over a mower is that you can scythe wet grass and it doesn't matter how long it is. Less maintenance and it makes hay that you can use. I use the hay as a mulch to cover all of my garden beds and I fill the compost too.
Also ride on mowers are expensive, noisy, require servicing and a lot of storage space and won't give you mad abs like scything does.

I use a peening tool on an old log, it's super easy and anyone can do it with this tool.
I also have both of the anvils (the flat and bent one) to do it the classic way but this is a skill I haven't yet mastered and unfortunately I damaged my blade both times I tried, albeit the results are better (a thinner edge). Wish I practised on some old blades first.
Also the peening tool is much quicker and less frustrating to use.
I think that's more than anything makes you wonder what the f*** is the point of grass. How did we get into a situation where we feel that it is somehow worthwhile to grow something that has to be continually tended at least once a week. Meanwhile why didn't the standard become clover or something else. Or pine straw. What is lawn have to be green and having these little hairs grow out of it that we have to clip every week. I'll tell you I think it's the damn grass people who sold us something it would need to be tended every week so they could sell Us lawn mowers and gasoline and fertilizer.
Is she going to Home Depot website the artificial grass has now become so convincing that they actually sell you different species of artificial grass such as fescue etc. The stuff is great and if you really want to have the look of a lawn I highly recommend you take a look at what Home Depot has online for sale instead. Or then again you could just decide you really don't need a green hairy front to your house

Cow food. Then becomes milk, butter, cottage cheese, cheese. Then steaks and hamburgers.
Cows eat the grass and then I eat the cow products and cows. Cows are vegetarians.
That makes me a vegetarian by proxy, as I am consuming highly processed grass.

If it's drying out or older grass (i.e. late season) then it will probably need to be longer.
There's a lot of variables though, like the type of grass you are cutting.
