There was an app you could use 5 years ago that has since expired (reddit now prevents this functionality) that allowed you to edit your comment first before deleting it and then deleting your account entirely.

More specifically I was talking about why they are doing this now when in the past you could delete your posts and they'd stay deleted.

If they're trying to go public, inflating the user / comment counts with "deleted" information isn't as shitty as faking the information.
