It's because we saw this happen on a global scale with the scamdemic bullshit and as a result of the NPCs completely submitting to their (((overlords))) pretty much everything around us got significantly worse.
I would love to see how I would react in that situation.
What I believe I would do is ask someone who is standing, then if they don't have a good answer ask the receptionist, then if there's still no good answer openly chuckle the next few times they did it and finally ignore them when the humor wore off.
But that's the thing about the subconscious. You don't really know until being put in that situation yourself.
