Well the other lesson that is that more people like to talk about nonsense than listen to music.

Musicians and music lovers just don't understand that most people just don't care about music that much.

To most people it's background or it's just something that accompanies an event in their life.

Most people don't look the song lyrics to be the guiding force in their life like most music fanatics do.

A lot of music is crap, and nearly all modern music is absolute crap. Rap, hip hop, club music, techno, pop, and the like have made most people gradually less interested in music because it's stupid, repetitive, uninteresting, requires attention but delivers much too little, and generally annoys the listener.

A big problem with modern music is that the majority of people making it aren't musicians, per se. They're performance artists. They may have "talent", but they don't understand music theory. They can't read music and they can't compose music; they can press buttons on a computer program.

Classical musicians may not have been able to explain the detailed physics behind frequency and vibration, but they knew enough to understand their effects on the human consciousness.

Even entire buildings were designed with purpose: the transmission of sound.

John mayer can't read or write music but hrs probably the best singer/songwriter/guitarist of the 21st century. Reading music is overrated. Understanding the feelings that the notes produce on the other hand...

Regarding your last statement, I remember reading quite a long time ago about concert spaces designed with natural acoustic resonators and baffles to change the dynamics of a space under the control of the conductor. The space becomes as much a part of the musical performance as the conductor and the orchestra.

Not all but most

I'm glad you agree. I was careful how I described it, saying "a lot", "nearly all". But my judgment of modern styles of music, as I named above, have diluted any feeling or meaning in music because the lyrics are meaningless and banal, the music is uninspired and repetitious, and there's no musicianship, craft, or talent any longer. 90% of musician/composers fall in this category, and deserve not to be listened to.

[ - ] Clubberlang 1 point 10 monthsJun 26, 2023 21:34:37 ago (+1/-0)

Yep I'd be hard pressed to find an artist today that had conviction in their voice and more than 2 lines of lyrics.

Most music is kiked garbage artificially pushed. People become fond of something the more they hear it. One of those manipulation tactics. Even shitty music can hook normies.

Just get off the beaten path.

Is this your 5% of what's good or your 95% of what's bad?

[ - ] TheNoticing 0 points 10 monthsJun 27, 2023 13:15:01 ago (+0/-0)

5% of good music. Iron Maiden is one of the most important bands in history.

I see. Music is of course and personal preference and I won't insult your taste in music, but I think I can say objectively that heavy metal has been a destructive force in modern music. It's degenerate, encourages degenerate behavior in fans, and often unintelligible. Plus, it's demoralizing and is never beautiful or uplifting. I believe the world would be much better off if it had never existed.

Entertainment is inherently worthless, and the πš–πš„πšœπ™ΈπšŒ πš’πš‚ π™Όπš’ πš•π™Έπšπ™΄ crowd is cringe as fuck. They don't even listen to music half the time. They listen to some autotune bullshit over a three second clip on repeat made by some overpaid faggot on a computer. Show them a guitar and they'll try to stick their dick in it.

I had occupied the music fanatic space and know just what you mean.

[ - ] heebiejeebies 1 point 10 monthsJun 26, 2023 18:22:16 ago (+1/-0)

Yeah I'm that guy. I can play a few woodwind instruments, know how to read music, etc.

Music is best experienced interactively, imo. Nothing beats feeling the vibrations of harmonic consonance move through your body when you're sitting and playing in the middle of an orchestra of dozens of musicians. It is a spiritual experience and truly impossible to describe accurately to someone who hasn't experienced it.

I'm also mathematically inclined, and music scratches that itch for me as well. I like music with strange or changing time signatures and challenge myself trying to figure out the phrasing patterns.

[ - ] Lost_In_The_Thinking 1 point 10 monthsJun 26, 2023 21:37:56 ago (+1/-0)

It's interesting you brought up changing time signatures. There's a lot of modern music and pop music that does that, but since most people don't have any musical education, they don't notice it. You don't need to be able to read music to understand music, but it helps, but knowing structures of various kinds of compositions is incredibly helpful, even with popular music. Knowing how A-B-C sections are often used in songs and how they chords shift to bring a mood to each section is useful. I remember Jethro Tull used time signature changes or odd time signatures for that effect, such as their album "Thick As a Brick" and their song "Living in the Past", which is in 5/4. ("The Rite of Spring" is an entirely different discussion, though. Too much for my brain to handle.)

It's frustrating telling people there's a LOT of other music to listen to, but their brains shut down when you try to tell them it's not modern and was written decades or even hundreds of years ago.

I'm not a musician, but I can only imagine what you say about the spiritual experience playing in an orchestra, surrounded by other musicians playing a composition of carefully arranged chords and counterpoint.

And that's why rap isn't music. Rhyming over a drum kit is so definingly nigger.

Awesome post. True Dat.
Whenever I'm trying to write music I'm always plagued by the fact that jew producers will kibosh any art of value. I need to get over it and do it for the love of music.
