At Publix a few days ago I paid 6 bux for 30 eggs, they were not on sale either

[ - ] ilikeskittles 6 points 1.9 yearsJun 25, 2023 09:19:35 ago (+6/-0)

It’s at least 40%
Eggs aren’t up 28%, they’re up 200%.
Gas is up 200%.

[ - ] Tallest_Skil 3 points 1.9 yearsJun 25, 2023 09:46:20 ago (+5/-2)

Eggs are back where they were before the martial law. Meat, on the other hand…

[ - ] KyleIsThisTall 2 points 1.9 yearsJun 25, 2023 14:32:51 ago (+2/-0)*

$2.5 at ALDI is not back where they were

At ALDI eggs used to be .79 just a year ago.

[ - ] TheSimulacra 2 points 1.9 yearsJun 25, 2023 12:32:24 ago (+2/-0)

FUN FACT

Take your percentage, divide it into 72
That will give you the rate of doubling.
20% a year is less than 4 years to double prices.

The greatest folly of the human race is their inability to truly comprehend exponential growth and decay.

[ - ] oyy_veyy_goyy 3 points 1.9 yearsJun 25, 2023 12:58:29 ago (+3/-0)

It's certainly one of the greatest follies. The greatest folly is humanity's failure to properly deal with the jewish demons. These demons have been exploiting the inability to understand exponential growth via ridiculous interest rates for millennia.

[ - ] ilikeskittles 0 points 1.9 yearsJun 25, 2023 19:49:56 ago (+0/-0)

Eggs were $2. There $6 now. That’s 200%.

[ - ] TheSimulacra 1 point 1.9 yearsJun 26, 2023 01:47:12 ago (+1/-0)

You are bad at math. And grammar.

Live somewhere where shit isnt so expensive. TN is the most fiscally responsible state in the union. Find out what #2 is and go there...

[ - ] Kung_Flu 4 points 1.9 yearsJun 25, 2023 09:55:38 ago (+4/-0)*

Can someone double check my numbers? I'm not seeing these price hikes at all.

5 years ago:
Milk $4 / gal
Eggs $2 / doz
Cheese $4 / lb
Ground beef $3 / lb
Olive oil $8 / L
Butter $2.50 / lb

Today:
Milk $5 / gal
Eggs $2 / doz
Cheese $5 / lb
Ground beef $4 / lb
Olive oil $8 / L
Butter $3/lb

Edit: Added butter prices. Butter spiked for a little while but it's more reasonable now.

[ - ] Hobama 2 points 1.9 yearsJun 25, 2023 15:02:31 ago (+2/-0)

Ground beef is at least $5-6, cheese is $10/lb

[ - ] Kung_Flu 0 points 1.9 yearsJun 25, 2023 18:26:51 ago (+0/-0)

Sharp cheddar is regularly $5/lb. If I want something fancy like Brie I can get that for $8/lb.

[ - ] Reawakened 1 point 1.9 yearsJun 25, 2023 10:16:38 ago (+1/-0)

Today:
Milk $5 / gal - 25% increase
Eggs $2 / doz - 0% increase
Cheese $5 / lb - 25% increase
Ground beef $4 / lb - 33% increase
Olive oil $8 / L - 0% increase

I can see inflation in those numbers.

[ - ] Kung_Flu 1 point 1.9 yearsJun 25, 2023 13:47:13 ago (+1/-0)

Yeah we're talking 5 years though.

[ - ] Reawakened 0 points 1.9 yearsJun 25, 2023 21:08:22 ago (+0/-0)

I thought we were talking inflation. Or rather, the absence of...

[ - ] Kung_Flu 0 points 1.9 yearsJun 25, 2023 21:19:32 ago (+0/-0)

25% increase over 5 years isn't as dire as some people make it. Some goods spiked a lot over the past year or two, like eggs and butter, but since have come back down. I see other people talking about shit like $10 cheese or $11 olive oil. Just checked costco.com and their olive oil is $9/L, which isn't bad, so I'm not sure where they're getting these inflation numbers from. Inflation is high, but these doomsayers are muddying the waters. It's not 20% YoY or higher.

[ - ] KyleIsThisTall 1 point 1.9 yearsJun 25, 2023 14:45:51 ago (+1/-0)

in PGH eggs at fucking ALDI are 2.49 used to be 0.79

[ - ] Sector7 1 point 1.9 yearsJun 25, 2023 10:27:49 ago (+1/-0)

Milk $4.59 / gal
Eggs $5.79 / doz
Cheese $11.50 / lb (Président Feta Crumble Cheese)
Ground beef $4.99 / lb
Olive oil $21.14 / Kirkland Signature Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil, 2 L

Mainly getting duck eggs (85-90 grams) at the farmers market for $12 dozen.
'Beef' has gone from $4.59 to $6.59+
Pork chops holding steady at $3.59 / lb
Not many years ago, milk was $5.49 for two gallons.

Some of these are the delivered price from instacart. Meat is local market price. All coastal California prices.

[ - ] allAheadFull 1 point 1.9 yearsJun 25, 2023 14:02:31 ago (+1/-0)

I don't know what time frame the 20% is supposed to represent, that's kind of important, pre-Covid, since 1913??? Also Depends on the quality of food items I guess. Before Covid I was getting eggs for $0.69, organic pasta was $1 a pound, now it's $2. You could still get Dean's milk for $1.50 or less then too.

[ - ] KyleIsThisTall 1 point 1.9 yearsJun 25, 2023 14:45:03 ago (+1/-0)

where tf you living milk $5/gal 2018???

[ - ] Kung_Flu 0 points 1.9 yearsJun 25, 2023 18:26:03 ago (+0/-0)

Florida. And $4/gal @ 2018, $5/gal @2023.

Don't be antisemitic. Shut up and accept your state mandated immigrant. If your immigrant rapes something of yours that's just because you were not tolerant enough.

Just don't send them to the sanctuary states thats just a sign they hang in town they like to laugh at while receiving government kick backs for displaying it.

Lying government doesn't include gas or electric when calculating inflation.

Inflation depends on energy prices and trade prices. Ukraine "war" fucks with wheat prices and diesel was expensive. Now diesel prices have come down, but it takes 3 months for new product to reap the benefits of lower energy price.

[ - ] FreeinTX 2 points 1.9 yearsJun 25, 2023 09:04:54 ago (+2/-0)

The government measures the cost of cheap chinese appliances. it's not been a useful number since globalization. Which drove down the cost, if not the price, for things. As soon as it went to China, relentless cost saving began. The net is shit doesn't last past its 1-3 year warranty. The unit cost is down, though.

For the real inflation rate you must take into account Housing price and rent. The biggest payment most have to make is the mortgage or rent.
