how do certain people have such bad luck?

Part of me always wonders if its satanic, but i know a guy. I shit you not, the guy is the epitomy of bad luck, if something bad can happen, it will. It's to the point that it almost feels guided by a higher power, because no one can truly be THAT unlucky. It makes no sense to me how it's even possible

Most of the time when a person's life is a trainwreck it is because the person themself is a trainwreck. Blaming everything on unnatural levels of bad luck is just coping

The files you see are only yours to see. Do you think giving sudo command to idiots is a smart idea? Actually, i would go further that sudo command shouldn't even be known to exist for most users.

A lot of it boils down to attitude, it's not the bad luck that's the problem, so much as the reaction to the problem. In one case he cussed out a nigger for being useless, which is fine. But don't expect that nigger to help in the slightest after yelling at them.

Theres just going to be a statistically predictable subset of people in any population that have a high number of bad events befall them.

Lets say theres a 1 in 10 cahnce you get cancer before 50. And theres a 1 in 10 chance you have a bad car crash. And a 1 in 10 chance your kid becomes a drug addict. 1/10 x 1/10 x 1/10 = 1/1000. One guy in a thousand is going to have all three things happen to him

Nothing satanic about this. Just probabilities.

That I studied probability or that I never worked in insurance? You think insurance is the only field in which probability is useful?

When reviewing job applications I take the first half of the stack and throw it in the trash without looking at them. I do this because I don’t want to hire anyone that is unlucky. What is the probability that this practice will protect me from the unlucky?

My hapless mother is one of these people. She’ll call and say ‘Susan luck’ strikes again. Which means she needs money. She branded her consistent bad luck, ‘Susan Luck’. But what is actually consistent are her extremely poor decisions that lead to predictable disasters. Doesn’t matter what you tell her, Susan will do what Susan wants, and shrug her shoulders when it doesn’t pan out. I think she actually likes the bad luck as she is addicted to ‘woe is me’ attention. She doesn’t get how pathetic it looks to others.

Streaks of bad luck are a disease of the stupid.

Sounds like she has susan_luck.exe malware running in her brain. And yeah, whatever reward she gets from that is stronger than the negative effects, at least in her perception.

A true streak of “bad luck” is certainly possible. People can be risk averse and still have alot of bad things happen to them. Theres a certain probability that 5 shitty things will happen to you that you couldnt have avoided. But I do think much bad luck is of your mother’s type, e.g. traveling to mexico or driving too fast or getting the vaxx

God blesses you in natural ways. Your health and your families health. Higher crop yield, livestock health and increased birthrates. Monetary wealth is more of a curse, than a blessing.
