It's simply a matter of calculated risk, and the risk:reward ratio. You think Shackleton was hiring idots?

You can hire and retain experienced people that know what the fuck they are doing, and be willing to pay them what they know they are worth, and according to the assessed risk:reward ratio, in order to maximize your chances of success, or you can hire younger, inexperienced (and btw, much CHEAPER) "diversity" hires for their "inspiration". And fire the "old White guy" that TOLD you this shit was going to happen.

You can have "old White Guys" and oxygen, or "inspiration", but you can't have both.

It's not as if submarines are some new and untested technology and they were out there bravely pushing back the bounds of human knowledge.
They were some rich diletantes that didn't even know enough to ask the right questions, taking a joy ride in somebody's cheap-ass beater and ran off a cliff. Tough shit. Money doesn't buy intelligence or wisdom.
