For instance, pig farmers are losing their asses because the price per head is down 20% since last year, yet retail prices are up, which suppresses demand even more. The Dept of Agriculture is buying $50 million worth of pork loin to bail them out. But guess who is making a killing? The brands you see on store shelves. They’re paying less per hog and charging more for the end product. This is exactly what happened with eggs. It’s price fixing. The price consumers pay is unrelated to supply and demand or inflation.
