Russian T-55 based VBIED loaded with 6T TNT explodes near Ukrainian line (2nd clip in comments)

The tank was disabled by a mine near the AFU position, then gets detonated by an RPG. Nearby hohols get liquidated by shockwave and shrapnel.

This shorter clip is zoomed out and shows the shockwave better.

How many bombs in WW2 were that big?

Just think how no US soldier has ever had to face what both of these sides are facing.

The WWII era British Tallboy had a 6.5T yield.

The modern MOAB has an 11T yield.

Was the TallBoy the biggest or one of the biggest?
That’s a great real life display of size for comparison then if it’s only .5T smaller.

The Tall Boy was the biggest in WWII.

Interesting then how that’s a perfect example of how small (by modern standards) WW2 explosives were.
I’ve never been able to WW2 spurge that hard on technical shit, but it would be cool to see a comparison of how many bullets, bombs and men were used to take over these same regions in WW2 vs now.

Big bada boom

Well apparently cleared farmland makes for a strategically terrible battlefield.

The AFU troops were in the tree line.

I wonder if the guy firing the middle survived. Anyone have an educated answer?

Actually a bit surprised it didn’t shock the drone a bit.

Nerds online say 6T of TNT produces 36kPa force. That guy got obliterated. To say nothing of the tank body shrapnel that traveled who knows how far.

I don't know about this specifically, but I did some work with Paladin artillery. They fire a 155 round. The book says 600 meter maximum effective blast radius.
I imagine a handful of tank rounds in storage could add up to a 155.

Was it a drone?

[ - ] Spaceman84 [op] 1 point 2.0 yearsJun 19, 2023 13:57:41 ago (+1/-0)

Yeah, remote controlled.

[ - ] HeavyBrain 0 points 2.0 yearsJun 19, 2023 10:41:16 ago (+0/-0)

Hahol RPG they say.

[ - ] ilikeskittles 1 point 2.0 yearsJun 19, 2023 10:47:02 ago (+1/-0)

No I mean was the tank a drone? Or remotely controlled? Otherwise, why pack it with 6T of TNT?

[ - ] GloryBeckons 0 points 2.0 yearsJun 19, 2023 12:51:50 ago (+0/-0)

They packed it full of explosives, pointed it at a Ukrainian defensive position, and put a rock on the pedal.

ISIS tactics, except with a tank instead of a car.

Okay. Makes sense.

Thats gotta smart!

Big boom, for sure. But Russia is losing ground and stature. Putin should be ousted for someone who didn't give handjobs to all the oligarchs.

[ - ] Spaceman84 [op] 0 points 2.0 yearsJun 19, 2023 14:02:35 ago (+0/-0)

I guess you didn’t learn anything when the same tactics were employed in Bakhmut. Strategic retreat, shell the position you once occupied from three sides. Ukraine is taking far more casualties.

[ - ] 1234lkjh 0 points 2.0 yearsJun 20, 2023 01:57:15 ago (+0/-0)

We'll see in the coming weeks. Bakhmut is symbolic, but holds little strategic value. If Crimea falls, what's your go-to hopeium?

[ - ] 3Whuurs 0 points 2.0 yearsJun 20, 2023 02:45:49 ago (+0/-0)

You realize that after Russia took Crimea and Donbas, that speculating Crimea might fall is your hopeium right?

[ - ] Spaceman84 [op] 0 points 2.0 yearsJun 20, 2023 11:13:43 ago (+0/-0)

Crimea isn’t going to fall. That’s some imagination you got there.
