Too soon to call it, but the Ukrainian counteroffensive clearly doesn't have air control, making for easy ground targets for Russians. The US is borrowing money to send it into this toilet to be flushed. Crazy shit.

Regarding air superiority, neither side has it because air defense is more advanced than the aircraft they have at their disposal. Drones are the closest thing they have to CAS.

Russia has air superiority over their own lines.

So when Ukraine breach they get slaughtered by helis, not just artillery.

And in another way Russia does have air superiority.

Not just suppression of natos air defense.

But Russia can and do send their drones and missiles to do what trad planes used to do.

Neither side can fly over enemy territory. That’s not air superiority. They’re simply launching missiles from their own airspace. Australia is going to send their decommissioned F-18s so we’ll see if that shakes things up.

Nato aa is do degraded they have to conserve for manned aircraft and those are staying out of range.

You are talking out of your ass. Air defenses cannot effectively target drones. The US is developing the Coyote drone to intercept enemy drones but no air defense system can effectively target most drones, certainly not the smaller electric drones. We are discussing air superiority, which has nothing to do with drones or missiles. Air superiority is the ability to fly sorties over the battlefield after destroying air defenses, which as you noted neither side does in this conflict.

I wish civilians would know when they’re out of their depth. I helped train Army drone pilots at Ft Hood when they got their first batch of Grey Eagles.

Regarding the F-18 and F-16, they are old but their electronics are as good or better than Russian state of the art. The SU-35 isn’t really a 5th gen aircraft. More like 4.5. The Russians would have the edge in a dogfight but not at a distance. NATO has better radar and missiles.
