I don't have a dog in the race, I don't really care about volcanoes. If I was gonna choose one of those places to visit, with everything else being equal, I'd choose Iceland. I feel like it'd be a more genuine experience as opposed to how many tourists Hawaii gets.

I was on a 378' ship during a typhoon in the Bering Sea.
The deck of the bridge was 42' above sea level and I was looking up at the crests of 55 ' waves! 75 knot winds with -75f wind chill.
I went out on a bridge wing to look at the storm and saw something in the water out of the corner of my eye.
Twilight zone time.
It was a walrus swimming for it's life. It was porpoising. I didn't know they could swim that hard.

The spray from the bow would freeze in the time it took to hit the bridge 100 ft away. In a day and a half we had 2 ft of ice on the entire super structure and had torn a weld joining the main deck and the forward bulkhead. If the storm had lasted another day we would have been in danger of capsizing from the ice weight. A Korean ship capsized in the storm with the loss of all hands. I was 21 at the time and thought it was exciting. If I was there now I'd be scared to death. The movie the perfect storm captured the look of the waves. At that size they are like a building coming at you. Fast!

my bunk was 50 ft from the stern of the ship. the stern would fall so fast the we levitated out of our bunks. the entire rear of the ship would rotate with the propellers when they were briefly out of the water. I went out on the main deck near the stern. prohibited at the time due to the danger . looking forward along the entire length of the ship I was astounded bto see it flex laterally in the seas! Normally you could see 300+ of the length of the ship looking along the lengtyh.

Sometimes guys just catch that bug and have to do crazy things. Not me, I was standing on a step ladder the other day using my electric hedge trimmer and my inner voice was like “Youre going to die!” every minute. Thats as close to life on the edge as I tend to get.

It always amazes me to see some guys climb mountains and fight wars and all that sort of thing. It is truly a male trait and every fiber of my being says no to taking physical risks. Even riding bikes like your new one is probably not for me. Sympathies for your bro. Try Hawaii. Ive never been to either place but Im sure there are lots of cool places to go around there that arent too touristy or nigger ridden.

Hawaii is sick. Beautiful country, great food. The problem is mostly corporate, not the poor starving natives. Chinese corporations in particular have totally fucked this place. But it's amazing to visit if you're smart about it. Do only 1 night in the big tourist trap places, and the rest of the vacay somewhere out in the country. You'll have a great time.

I’ve been to Maui. That volcano was dead. It looked like the moon, no green as far as you could see, so high it was freezing in the summer. Then we did a bike ride down, you don’t have to peddle but you have to ride your brake. Let off the brake and you’ll go 40 mph for hours. Lots of fun. It gets hotter as you go down so you have to shuck off cloths. Riding down that Maui volcano was one of the best experiences of my life. I wanted to go faster but my wife was behind me and I didn’t want her to wipe out trying to keep up.

If you want to see one erupt, the ones in Iceland seem to be on a schedule, and the people are white. I met quite a few brown cunts on Maui

I lived in Iceland for a year, hence my username and the fact that my paternal grandmother was full blooded Icelandic. Anyway, that was a long time ago, but I’d like to go back. I’ve been to Hawaii and seen the big one, whatever it’s called on the big island. You go up at night to a visitors center and watch the glow from afar. I’m sure you can venture out on your own and get closer if you want. Just don’t take any rocks home.

I've been to both, would 10000% pick Iceland over Hawaii. Sadly, I was married in Hawaii (many decades ago) and my wife has fond attachments there and none (other than a couple visits since 2018) for Iceland.

The only advice I have for Iceland (actually relevant to all life) is to avoid anything that's overly advertised. We fell for the Blue Lagoon sticht, it was lame, expensive, crowded and so very much not worth it beyond the convenience factor (perfectly fit in a layover window).

I have always wanted to go to Iceland. I have also heard stories about people who travel to Hawaii and bring back volcanic rocks you are pissing off some goddess and she makes your life suck until you bring the rocks back. Also, there is a beach with volcanic sand or something. So I guess go see that when your done surfing the lava.

The Post Office has a special bin for people to mail back rocks and stuff they took and then every so often they empty it out and return everything to the beach.
