I don't like to post meaningless shit but the lopsided fact is the only enjoyment I get in today's clown world is socializing with my bears...in fact as I key this in I'm sitting with an adolescent cub that really likes attention.
I've got my original 3 bears, Brutus, Lashes and one that we've never named but I've got a bunch that are just part and parcel of the area.
They're getting into the mating mode right now, still a bit early but they're really frisky and they like to paw and jaw, as in get my attention by grabbing my foot with a claw and hooking into my bootlace, one little cub took the watershoe off my foot and fucked off with it and when I would get close to grabbing it away from him he'd move another 10 or so feet just so I couldn't get it. Eventually I got it
When they get playful bears like to jaw each other and "love bites" are a way of affectionately communicating, the problem is that human skin isn't as tough as bear hide and their love bites will leave a bruise. I've never had them break the skin but I have had bruised fingernails.
Yesterday Lashes was so affectionate that she left a real big pinch mark on my thigh, I was wearing shorts and she got my "bare" skin but she knew not bite hard...but a bear is a bear and they're powerful.
This cub I've got sitting with me now is motherless and craves attention, to the point where he even tries to get up onto my lap while I'm in this chair and at the same time he slobbers on me and tries to lick my face and I've got nowhere to go and have to wait until he finally realizes there's no room on this chair for the both of us. But these guys are real funny and they're great company.
And this is how I spend much of my time in today's clown world.
He was fucking with grizzlies and browns. One thing about these animals is that they're a powerhouse and you have to match their strength and when you can't, because they will over power you, you have to know their vulnerable spot and that's the tip of their snout...the same with a mountain lion, I had one at one time, it died about 5 years ago, but the only way to over power it was to rap it on the snout and that shuts them right down...all animals have that vulnerable spot, including sharks...but back to that Tim guy, grizzlies, browns and polar bears are predominantly flesh eaters and there's no taming them, they have to be feared into submission and still things can turn quick...but these black bears are whimps, they're powerful but they're whimps but still they only understand and yield to equal or excessive power. I've had to hit a few bears with my fist and even a boot to the jaw to keep them in line but if they wanted to seriously turn on me I wouldn't stand a chance unless armed. I've had bears around me all my life and there's only one time that I had the intention of putting one down with the 30-06 but for some reason it just dissappear and never saw it again. I used to pack a .44mag when out with my bears but in the last 10years or so I quit because I felt it insulting to these animals that have never shown any aggression towards me or my wife...they just play rough. Treadwell was out of his element.
I understand the blacks are much safer than grizzlies. But I still think habituating them to people is a bad idea. They will feel comfortable approaching someone else who sees them as a threat. I understand the temptation but remember that they do not need to be friends with you. Thats your need you are fulfilling. You will say Im a killjoy but Ive got to be honest.
I think he's coexisting with them, not habituating them. They see each other as equals. It's not something I would recommend trying, but he's obviously got bond with them that goes beyond feeding them. You're right when you say other people might see them as a threat, but I have serious doubts that those bears would view other people as even the same kind of animal that they see in Zyk. Generally speaking though, yeah don't feed the wildlife.
@Postwall.....I absolutely get it but I didn't ask for this,...BUT...name me one living organism that doesn't parasite off another living organism, humans included. Look at the bond humans have with their cats, dogs, horses, rabbits blah blah blah, all domesticated animals were once wild...my lineage stems from the Russian Empire and my growing up would be considered primitive today but did I ever toughen up when my father said directly at me "nobody smiles in Russia", meaning that life was fucking rough...my brother and I at age 6 & 7 had to deal with every fucking wild animal natural to Northern Ontario, fox, wolves, coyotes, lynx, and bears and everything we heard or read in media and from school about how vicious this animals were was not making sense to us who lived with these animals every day, we had chickens, rabbits, horses, turkeys and my uncle a mile away had the pigs and cows, the biggest threat was weasels, raccoons, fox, coyotes and to a lesser extent the Timber Wolves, I've had Timber wolves within a double arm reach when I was a kid and I've never been attacked. ON THAT NOTE...I've been bitten by domesticated dogs, had a hell of an attack by a cat, and worst of all were the filthy parasitic two face humans who consider themselves a friend, or, a dumb nigger who jumps you with a knife in his hand WHO LIVES OFF MY TAX FUNDED WELFARE. My bears have to live in this shitty clown world like I have to, nobody's exempt. And just to let you know, the moment a stranger shows up all my bears go on alert and only when my company sits down beside me will they come over and give everyone a sniff over, I tell them to relax and don't worry and everyone trusts that I know my bears...and nobody died. One more thing...a ways back one of my big monster sized males, 800lbs easy, he lived a good life here, he went blind and it did something to me, I couldn't stop staring into his heavily translucent blue cataract eyes, and he did everything by sense of smell and hearing and he would know exactly where I was at all times...I hand fed that guy for the entire season and he would sprawl at my feet...October came and bits of snow would come and go and I knew that the old guy was going to go soon and that would be it for that chapter...sure as shit I'm outside in the woodpile the next day with the blind bruin just sitting up against a maple tree that I had planted a long time ago and he's staring at me with those haunting blue eyes and I watches as wobbled to his feet and walked right past me into the bush and not once did he turn back to face me, he just kept walking until he was gone and I new that this was it...hence my endeavor to make it through this nightmare of a clown world.
You are a fascinating guy and I love your stories but I still think its best not to habituate the bears to people and you are potentially inadvertently breediing them for some undesirable behavioral traits. Liking you or liking bears or thinking that you and the bears have a good relationship has nothing to do with it.
@PeckerwoodPerry...I trust these bears more than I do most humans...like I've often stated, out of respect and trust for these bears I won't even pack a sidearm, unlike my choice to pack a 9er in defense of the death threats that I've received and that the RCMP, OPP and local cops are aware of....I'm outside with my bears right now but I have weapons within steps from me.
Here's how my relationship with bears began. Notwithstanding the fact that even growing up in a farm environment, but in a wilderness setting, we've had to coexist with the wildlife including bears. Back in the late 90s the bear hunt was under pressure by the "Sierra Club and PETA". After a lot of bullshit debate and us telling the government that the bear population will explode the spring bear hunt was canceled and the fall hunt was hit with excessive restrictions. Within 10 years the population exploded even right down through the states. I've had my place here for 45 years and this area is bush, swamp and former apple orchard to which the bears have always been here...fast forward to present the bears are like rabbits, they're everywhere and they are territorial and many have made my area their territory, I've got no choice but to live with them because they ain't going anywhere...it was only a matter of time before these bears accepted humans as their, so to speak" equals. What was I supposed to do when year after year I've got baby cubs (footballs) being born and living on my land, in my back yard? Living the life I did there was many times when I'd be in the Caribbean or Latin America and the wife would take care of things but they'd never forget who I returned. Now my life has calmed down and I spend lots of time with them, in fact I have a cub pulling on my sweater looking to play. I had no choice but to make these bears family, I had 14 here the other day...and that's just the way it is....ETC ETC ETC.
@observation...I've yelled a couple times from some excessive love biting but at the same time they got a boot in the underside of the jaw (it slams their bottom jaw into the top one and gives a loud smack) and they feel it or they get nose rapped with my stick and they submit, if I yell they're getting hit...BUT...when two bears go at it in an all out brawl and they're only 5ft away you gotta get the fuck out fast, I got run over by a bear that was being chased by another one time and it was fast, I went from seeing the two come at me to looking up at the sky on my back, I was lucky that they didn't hit me square on but I got to my feet quick, I was in real good shape back then, and I watched them lock jaws but they didn't draw blood on each other and before you know it they're coming to me for a treat.. just to let you know.
@FLAryan...black bears do range in sizes, I've got the smaller species and the large but they mingle together well. Kodiak bears are an exclusive isolated breed and is like a cross breed between grizzly and brown bears and in many cases a bit larger than a grizzly but as for fighting ability I think the grizzly is more aggressive. Just a side note here...just before the ✡️ covid hoax I was planning a polar bear hunt, by the way, I've got no issues with hunting an Apex killer, grizzly or polar bears are hunting the hunter as well so one has to be on top of their game with no fuck ups because it could mean that one ends up dinner or lunch or just a snack...but I could never kill a black bear...but I had this polar bear hunt planned out and it wasn't just a regular hunting trip, there was a psychology aspect to it as well ie tolerating isolation, winter environment in June, long daylight hrs, and having to sleep in a tent hoping that the guy standing night guard with a .375H&H Mag doesn't fall asleep and allow a polar bear to intrude because it gets ugly...and once dropped off by helicopter that's it, even in an emergency called in via satellite phone it's going to be a minimum 3 days before a bird comes back for you. Anyways I was all in and then the covid bullshit fucked up everything, by the way, the limit for polar bears is TWO PER HUNTER AND THE CANADIAN GOVERNMENT BUYS ONE FROM THE HUNTER FOR $2,500.00...actually that's another story that I think I'll make a post of because it's really fucked up...ETC ETC ETC
@Ragnar...I will do a post...ultimately what it all boils down to is that, 1,polar bears are not endangered, 2, the hide is worth $60,000.00 average on the world market and it's legal to sell by virtue of the bear license....the communist government of Kanada doesn't want anyone profiting biggly off 2 hides...FYI, A fellow who passed away a few years ago had a complete polar bear mounted and was offered $50.000.00US and that was 30 years ago...in the end nobody's allowed to make money
I've stated a number of times that for some reason catbox.moe is really fucking complicated for my tablet, I've got multiple providers and different computers for different tasks, my tablet is for this and it doesn't cooperate well with others...it's Verizon.
