By "break the internet" Vorhies suggests bots will flood traffic by impersonation until they demand a way to authenticate humans meaning a digital ID to access www.
Explains why google captcha is so insanely easy to defeat by a program. It shuts down any regular level 95 IQ programmer who would be able to easily trick bots in his spare time on weekends.
Right now, weaponized programs attack what is left of the free internet 24/7. The main target are the few remaining message forums and content management type systems that have user registration / commenting.
The 24/7 onslaught of bots that attack every second is daunting. These programs are highly specialized and are tailored to attack both individual forums and generic amateur-run message boards / blogs that don't have round-the-clock maintenance.
The amateur run message boards disappeared first. Today, when some newbie starts a forum, they have no idea what they are up against. Exploits and scripts just destroy them, nuke the server and leave such a mess the admins just shut down and leave.
Other boards that employ security are harassed 24/7. Malicious accounts are created every second of every day to overwhelm the system with spam. Captchas, security questions and email verification can be bypassed by these scripts - it is impressive. It is possible to write counter-measures to bypass these spam scripts, but it requires a tremendous amount of work. The attack scripts use thousands of IP addresses - one new IP for every new spam account - impressive. But it is possible to figure out algorithms to programmatically counter the spam scripts.
(as a side note - blogs / forums that only allow oauth/google/fakebook/etc user logins are amazingly left alone - because the admins of these sites are not really the admins anymore, oauth/google/fakebook have total control of the userbase).
(second side note - search engines don't really search anymore, they just show lists of "trusted authoritative sites" (ie sites they control in one way or another). So big-tech solved the "blog/message board freedom" problem by simply not listing forums and blogs anymore, even though just 10 years ago forums and blogs were at the top of the search results, considered the most valuable results).
What will happen when AI has access to those endless servers in which to launch endless attacks? Will it be possible to survive "conscious" malicious bots? Will they create total "chaos"? Will manufactured consent for a "digital ID" be the solution the public "demands"?
