GTI is far from base. It's the second from the top, Only behind the Golf R. Last time they made base model Golfs was 2021 and they were $23,000

Neither is the 1961 Beetle, the advertisement is not for the economy model.

Prices for the 2023 GTI start at $30,350 for the base S model.

A Golf economy model is $23K [still far above the inflation, but lets compare apples to apples], the GTi S is $30.5K, SE $35.3K, Autobahn $39K

There was only one model with a few options. This is the standard model. That's the whole point of the ad.
