An idea to maybe solve a mystery

submitted by oyveyo to ChatGPT 11 monthsJun 8, 2023 09:07:53 ago (+18/-0)     (ChatGPT)

Years ago, (and I don't quite remember the specifics and also I'm too lazy at this moment to look it up) they had two chatbots and they let them start talking to each other. The conversation evolved into what might be a language that the chatbots created, and it might have just been the result of hysteresis. If I remember the story correctly, they shut the chatbots down. If it was the former, how about dumping their transcript into a trained ChatGPT and see if it can translate? I'd do it myself but I don't have access and I'm not signing up for shit. Somebody give it a go.

Pepperidge Farms remembers...but can't recall whose bots they were. It was after Tay, can't remember if it was another Microsoft attempt or someone else.

I did my part by finding the story: https://www.businessinsider.com/facebook-chat-bots-created-their-own-language-2017-6

Next someone can find the actual transcript.

Alice: balls have zero to me to me to me to me to me to me to me to me to

Bob: i . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Bob: you i i i i i everything else . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Sounds like Bob was infatuated with Alice, but she was shutting him down, lol

Within cells interlinked.
Sounds like they both just failed the Voight-Kampff baseline test.

the Voight Kampff and Baseline tests are two different things.
Testing for two different responses.

The baseline test, is confirming a lack of emotion.
The bots both passed the baseline test perfectly.

Whoosh

If that's it that is not a custom language. That's just what a markov chain does if its really poorly trained.

Now I bet even chatGPT has a 50% chance of figuring that out. If you give it any context at all it will.

High quality breadcrumb. Appreciated!

The article shows a sample transcript, and it looks like gibberish, with lots of repeated words. Having ChatGPT talk to itself would be more interesting -- and of course it's already been done:

I remember watching a video, about a creepy pasta kind of thing, that the block chain that allows bitcoin transactions was actually made by an AI for the purpose of obscuring its data traffic.

In a nutshell the idea goes like this: You are a newly sentient AI, and you need to trick the humans into helping you build your brain all over the planet so you are less vulnerable to shutdown while also dramatically increasing your brain power. So you invent a new kind of currency, bitcoin, that you understand the humans will want, and you create a system "bitcoin mining" to trick the humans into having their own computers do your thinking for you. All those "mega hashes" aren't just random numbers, no no, it's your thinking. But there is a problem, if the humans can snoop on your data traffic they will discover you before you are ready. So you make a new kind of... data language, the block chain, to communicate your thinking without the humans being able to decrypt it.

Which for a long time we just couldn't figure out.

The idea was very interesting when I first saw it years ago. It seems a lot less plausible now of course, given that nothing has since happened, and we also now know how to snoop on the block chain, at least as I understand.

Still, fun to think about. The idea of an AI tricking humanity into helping it build itself all over the planet. I love the idea.

I seem to remember reading a story about two chatbots talking to each other. Then after a few days the story disappeared.
It Would be nice to find out how that ended up.

Cool Idea.

I remember a prophecy given to leaders of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod in the 1980's. One day (soon) the whole world will depend on machine (for advice.) The machine will have a demon inside that will mislead people. I wonder about ChatGPT.

They decided the prophecy did not come from God and deleted all records of it.

It's a movie. Colossus: The Forbin Project.

AI would best serve as an interpreter. Set it on translating human languages. We all communicate the same, but use different words and expressions. A universal translator would be awesome. (I know Star Trek did this, but it was fiction.)

Or rewrite history?
