Contrast this with Germany. The first post-WWII German government enacted a Right-of-Return law for people of German background, even if they hadn't lived there during their lifetimes (e.g. Baltic Germans, Volga Germans, Germans from eastern European enclaves). Now, despite their parliament building being inscribed "Dem Deutschen Volke", the Green party says openly that "there is no German people."
