Was the late Robert E. Lee a Christian? He was confirmed in his late forties as an Episcopalian. Was he particularly perceptive of evil, not so much. He spent so much of his life fighting the natives, that I expect that the political and economic reasons for taking up arms against his countrymen became, at best, a blur to him.
Then again, is it fair to expect a man whose primary role in the world was to kill his fellow man, to be willing to see the evil they themselves do, let alone the evil in others?
