How do I get these dang birds to stop drinking from and shitting in my dog's outside water bowl?

submitted by Nosferatjew to whatever 10 months ago (+9/-1)     (whatever)

Ths trouble is, I like the birds. They eat the bugs, like good goy birds should. So, how can I get them to leave my dog's water bowl alone, without scaring them away entirely?

Get them a bird bath.

They'll leave the dog bowl alone if they have something better. Protip: Put a small flat rock or slab of brick in the center, so it sits slightly below the waterline. They enjoy having something to stand on in the middle. You'll have to change the water now and then. You can just spray it down with a hose to clean and refill.

This was my first thought. I was thinking a solar powered recirculating fountain, with a large-ish pool portion for the birds, could be nice. I could put it sort of near the feeders. For refilling, I bet an auto-filler, like what I use for the cow trough could work.

An auto-filler would be handy, but I bet it'll still get nasty after a while. Birds are surprisingly filthy creatures. Doesn't help that they like taking dirt baths, too.

The auto-filler will just keep it from drying up in the summer. If it's a recirculating fountain, then there's a pump, and pumps like to stay wet.

this is a good idea.

Pass a law and make it a no-bird area. You may still have a problem with black birds.

Put the bowl around a corner, put a fake owl near it.

Put a bird bath out, so they reach it first.

Get an ultrasounds bird repellent, check frequencies for bird vs dog.

Put spike strips on areas high up where bird poo indicates birds land; such as fence tops near the birdbath. Make sure spikes are short Incase some idiot climbs the fence. It could be plastic.

Yeah just get a bird bath or 2

Damn migrants... Tried calling ICE? Bird crimes are real crimes, it is time we stop ignoring this threat in our midst.

Lowes has stone bird baths right now for $39.99. Other than that they wil lcontinue getting in it. I have a bunch of squirrels getting into my bird feeder. I've made some mods and those little fuckers are still getting in it. Of course, this means war! I'm gonna do another mod that I think will at least slow them down. They are determined little fuckers. I have every kind of bird coming here along with Ravens. I sit in the morning and watch all this shit unfold. You wouldn't think it but Doves are aggressive! More so than BluJays.

That baffle is actually a great idea. I'll go to dollar tree tomorrow and get me a big bowl and make one. These squirrels are fucked now!

Build a small enclosure for the bowl, just big enough for the pups head.

Pellet gun

10 gauge would work better although the bowl might leak a bit :)

Buy a deeper replacement dog bowl

I was going to reflexively recommend getting a cat, but then I read your commentary. Maybe set up something with one of those bird frighteners or something.

Protip: the dog probably likes the bird shit.

[ - ] Nosferatjew [op] 0 points 10 months ago (+0/-0)

So you want the birds but dont want to be inconvenienced by the birds. You sound like a boomer.

[ - ] Nosferatjew [op] 2 points 10 months ago (+2/-0)*

And you sound like you enjoy the feeling of black dick in your throat.
