And surely the scene in which Brian declares to his mother that "I'm a yid, a hooknose, a Red Sea pedestrian...and I'm proud of it!" also rankles our little masters. Throughout the movie the Roman characters' disdain for jews comes out again and again, IMO a reflection of the traditional English disdain for jews.
