My dad told me stories of these assholes. They would show up in town and scam people with tradesman jobs, like they would offer a cheap price per square foot to patch your driveway. But then put down a patch that covers the whole driveway, thus overcharging you.

In this part of dad's life, he was a street racing teen hooligan. One of these tinker fucks had a totally badass '69 El Camino that he would scam people with betting on races. If you ever saw an SS 396 El Camino, you would assume it would have so much power to the rear that it would just go sideways off the line. He had it rigged so he could be observed doing this over and over in a night of racing. But, the clever fuck also had water keg mounted in the bed. Right over the axle, so he could put some water in there and have instant traction. It was like the street racing equivalent of being a pool hustler.

Sometimes you get a shitty lower caste even from an otherwise healthy race.

In the US, we have communities of 'Irish Travelers', mostly in the southern states. They are the same and they do the same shenanigans as in the old country.
