I’m in my 50’s, and I’ve never owned a cell phone. I saw my first cell in 1985. It was attached to a back pack you had to lug around. I saw the future in a flash, as clear as day. They would become addictive, status symbol, propaganda spewing tracking devices.

It probably didn’t help that they had just made us read ‘1984’ in school. I’ve had employers offer to give me a phone and pay the fees, but I think if I had one I would become accustomed to it and feel like a whore. I can only recall twice in my life when I thought that a cell phone would be useful in a situation. I find I just don’t need the thing. I like my rotary dial red land line phone, with a fifty foot curly cord. That’s all the roaming I need.

My cellphone is now 8 years old. Has no more internet connectivity. But still works as a phone and for text messages. I refuse to replace it until it actually dies. It has zero support, as it's a Windows phone.
