Looks like a Japanese street gutter.
Those things are like fox holes.
I swear the Japanese built them in anticipation of a U.S. ground invasion.

One time, we were walking back from a night bar hopping. Some of the gutters don't have covers like you see in this video. A friend fell into one. We were too drunk to get her out. She is probably still down there somewhere.

Another weekend, I was touring around in the company car. Japanese streets are small. This was a big car. Gutters on both sides of the road. I didn't turn a tight corner perfectly. Wheel fell down into the gutter. Couldn't get the car out. Had to call the boss. Boss called the Japanese equivalent of AAA. Got told "Don't do it again"... I did it again a few weeks later.

Japanese gutters are serious business.
